Donald ErwinHagemeister, age 80, of Kinsey Montana passed away Thursday, June 28,2007 at the Friendship Villa in Miles City MT.
He was born on March 1, 1927 in Scranton North Dakota to Erwin and ThelmaHagemeister. He graduated from Scranton High School in 1945. Don did not attend his graduation as he was being in route to serve in the Navy in the Philippines. He served in the Navy for 2 or 3 years stationed in Philippines during the end of the Korean War making roads and cleaning up during the end of the war. One of Don's favorite stories was that on his way over to the Philippines they were experiencing a very strong storm at sea. Don and all of his shipmates were ordered below deck until the storm was over. During the storm Don found his way topside as he wanted to see the storm head on. When the Master Sergeant caught him up on deck he demanded to know why he disobeyed an order. Don replied that being from North Dakota he had never experienced something like this and he didn't think that he could get a good look at the storm below deck. This must have impressed the Master Sergeant as he let Don sit out the rest of the storm topside.
Donald Hagemeister and Norma Deutscher were united in marriage on August 21, 1950 in Scranton, North Dakota. They moved to Bucyrus, North Dakota were Norma taught school and Donald farmed. In 1985 Norma and Don retired and moved to Livingston for nine years and then returned to Kinsey making that their home until a year after Norma's death in October of 1996. Don moved to Arizona and met Jo Martin. They made their home in Arizona until January 2007. They enjoyed traveling together up to Montana each spring. Don loved going places.
