Donald Floyd Wetsit, age 77, of Rocky Boy, Montana passed away Friday, August 17, 2007 at his home in Rocky Boy.
Don was born on September 30, 1929 in Wolf Point, Montana to Earl and Nina (Redstone) Wetsit. He was the last male heir of Chief He Wets His Arrow.Don graduated from Frazer High School in 1949, and went on to attend two years of college at Eastern in Billings, MT. He played basketball, and taught school South of Wolf Point.He joined the Army on February 15, 1951 and later received an honorable discharge on August 14, 1956.Don married Pauline Collins in 1953. This union was blessed with one daughter, Donna Ahneman, two sons, Mike and Fred Wetsit, and two girls that died at birth. Don and Pauline later divorced. On March 3, 1972, Don married Betty Parker. This marriage resulted in his adopting two boys, Val and Russell Parker.In 1957 Don was the U.S. Border patrolman North of Havre (also known as Wild Horse). After 30 years, he retired and moved to Rocky Boy.
Don was a member of the Team Roping Club in Havre for many years. He loved to team rope at rodeos and be with his horses. He was also a member of the Eagles Club in Havre.
Donald Floyd Wetsit is survived by his wife Betty, one daughter, Donna Ahneman of Wolf Point, three sons, Harold (Anna) Wetsit of Billings, Val (Sue) Parker of Wolf Point, and Russell (Joyce) Parker of Poplar, MT; sixteen grandchildren, Jessica Wetsit of Great Falls, MT, John Wetsit of Billings, MT, Ben Wetsit of Wolf Point, Misha, Hans, and K.C. Wetsit of Billings, Paulette (Joray) Ahneman FourBear of Wolf Point, Rhiannon (Mike) Ahneman Solberg of Las Vegas NV, Thomas James Staples of Helena, MT, Nicholas Jack Ahneman, Jessica and Jenny Parker, Mandy, Ryan (Chastity), and Rusti Parker, all of Wolf Point; five great grandchildren, Ethan, Audriana, and Gabrielle Four Bear, Dahmoniq Ahneman, and Brooke Parker; three sisters, Carol Wetsit Jone's of Wolf Point, Katie Dolly Stark of Poplar, MT, and Loretta Walton of Wolf Point. Don is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Nina (Redstone) Wetsit, two brothers, George Bootsie and Hans Wetsit, two sons, Mike and Fred Wetsit, two infant dauthters, Patricia Marie and Delores Ann Wetsit, and two grandsons, Gerald Bear Jr. and Clarence Spotted Wolf Jr. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 19 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point starting at 3 p.m. with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 20, 2007 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wolf Point, with Rev. Fr. Peter Guthnek officiating. Interment with military rights will follow at Oswego Catholic Cemetery.
