Donald Anthony Zahn of Circle, Montana passed on to glory November 24, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, Montana with family by his side, from lung complications.
Donald was born December 11, 1941 in Seattle, Washington, to Anton and Elsie Gebhardt Zahn. He was raised in Circle and graduated in 1960 from Circle High School.
Don enlisted in the Army in December 1963, and completed training as an Aircraft Mechanic. He was then assigned to the 25th Aviation Battalion, in Hawaii. Don was an Expert marksman and while in Hawaii was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division’s Marksmanship Training Unit. Don served in Hawaii until his discharge in November 1965.
After his release from the Army, Don returned home and worked at Farmers Union Oil Station. He married Beryl Becker in June of 1969. They spent the rest of their years on the farm west of Circle.
Don’s interests included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and above all else, collecting firearms and reloading his own ammunition. His extensive knowledge concerning guns and ammunition was recognized by all who knew him. He was an insatiable reader, and particularly enjoyed reading about early Montana history and of course anything to do with firearms.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Phillips.
His wife Beryl followed him into glory fourteen hours later.
He is survived by his brother-in-law Jack Phillips, his sister Debra Porter (Jeff), niece Tammi Appis, nephews Chad Morgan and Tony Morgan.
Also surviving him are his step-children, Cindy Liese (Dave), Harley Becker (Jackie), Scott Becker (Konny) and their families.

My heart is saddened to hear about the passing of Don. I can’t believe he is gone. When I moved to circle I didn’t know anyone. The zahn family took me in and treated me like family. Don was my montana brother he would always greet me with a big smile and hug. He made feel loved as a sister. I will always be grateful for the time I spent with him and the whole family. I will cherish the memories always. Rest in peace Don. Love your montana sister. Our condolences and prayers to the family. May his love and memories help through now and the days ahead. Condolences to the Zahn Family, I remember Don from high school but not having spent much time being in the class ahead of him or getting to know him until just resent years. It was a delight to spend a little time with Berly and Don, who had a broad range of knowledge of the world and its’s workings. Willing to show the deep trust in the Lord and share the faith with others boldly. The words “Well done, my faithful Servant” seems very fitting here.
