Donna Mae Bates Rex, age 86, of Miles City passed away on September 23, 2019 at Riverstone Hospice House in Billings.
Donna was born on March 13, 1933 in Bemidji, MN. to James and Edith Dowling Bates. Donna attended public schools in the Bemidji area. She returned in 1978 and got her GED and certificate in medical receptionist.
She married John Henry Rex, on July 4, 1953 and remained married until the time of her death.
In 1987 Donna and John packed up from Coon Rapids, MN and moved west to Helena, MT to open a Stageline Pizza franchise. They ran a successful business for 10 years, and then moved back to Miles City to be close to their daughter Tricia. Donna worked for Wal Mart for over 18 years as a cashier.
Donna enjoyed listening to hymns, crocheting, cooking for her family, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents James and Edith Bates, brothers; James and Ronald Bates, and granddaughter Melissa Rex. She is survived by her husband John H. Rex, sons; John (Debra), Larry (Nancy), Daniel (Teri), daughter; Patricia (John), 12 grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, sister; Elaine Rex, and brother; Kenneth Bates.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the Riverstone Hospice House, for Alzheimers research 2230 Mission Way, Billings, MT. 59102
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 4-6 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.
