Memorial services for lifetime Gillette resident Doris Wagensen, age 82, will be held on 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005 at the St. Matthews Catholic Church in Gillette with Father Jim McConnell of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be at a later time in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Stevenson Wilson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Wagensen died on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
Doris Wagensen was born June 25, 1923, southwest of Gillette, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Kirkbride) Cook. She was the seventh of ten children. Doris attended rural elementary school north of Gillette and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1941. During her high school years she boarded with Kate Swartz in Gillette.
On December 3, 1943, she married Donald W. Wagensen. They ranched north of Gillette on the Rawhide Ranch. Born to this union were Mickey , Lexi, Mary Kyle and Jan.
Doris owned and operated a childrens clothing store Tot to Teens in Gillette during the seventies. For years she kept meticulous books for Wagensen and Hayden right to the penny.
Her community involvement included her work organizing Health Services of Campbell County Planning Commission, PEO, Eastern Star, Wyoming Stock Growers, Senior Citizen Foundation Board and Board of directors, Jobs Daughters and Cottonwood Park Estates Board. She served on the school reorganization board at a time when there was a lot of controversy about district lines. She was an early member of the Beta Sigma Phi Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and served on the Altar Guild.
She enjoyed gardening flowers, working cattle, traveling, a good game of bridge and spending time with her longtime friend and companion Walt Mueller. Doris appreciated her special caregivers: LeAnn; Colleen, Jill, Nikki, Jessie and Kasey.
She is survived by her 3 daughters: Lexi Ballard of Casper, Mary Kyle Coltrane of Buffalo, Jan Fischer of Arvada; 7 grandchildren; 5 sisters: Avis Harrod of Gillette; Opal Butcher of Gillette, Pauline Haas of Saratoga, Bernice Hampton of Gillette, Donna Jean Phenix of Madison, Wisconsin; one brother, Cecil Cook of Gillette.
Her husband of thirty nine years preceded her in death on January 22, 1983; one son, Mickey in 1992; 2 sisters: Irene Persson, Ruby Fulkerson and 1 Brother, Allen Dean.
