Dorothy Christine Bahr, age 90, of Miles City passed away on September 12, 2017 at The Hearts and Home Assisted Living Facility.
Dorothy was born on October 15, 1926 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the daughter of Ingolf and Anna (Neinas) Johnson. She attended a rural country school and graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks in 1944. She then attended Mayville State College where she received her Teaching Certificate. She taught in Galesburg, ND for 1 year. Dorothy married Myron Bahr on June 26, 1946 and they lived on a farm in Thompson, ND. Together they raised 4 children on the farm. Dorothy embraced her role as a farm wife with milking early mornings, preparing and carrying food to the field, tending a large garden, and canning. She was known for her baked goods, especially cinnamon rolls, and lefsa. She also managed to be involved with the United Methodist Church locally, and the United Methodist Women at the local, State and National level. They moved to Grand Forks in 1983, retiring from the farm where Dorothy started working for the first time outside the home at Nutrition World. In 1990, they moved to Miles City where they enjoyed helping with their grandchildren, and again became involved in the United Methodist Church. Dorothy fulfilled a dream by returning to the classroom in the Miles City School District as a class room aide. It was rare that Dorothy ever complained about a hard life on the farm or when Myron used her kitchen for his woodworking projects. Her strong work ethic, graceful attitude, and strong faith was apparent to all who knew her. She was independent, and had just recently gave up driving and living alone within the last year. She moved into Hearts and Home where she had great care and loved the other residents, and staff like family.
Dorothy is survived by two sons: Gary Bahr and his wife Joan of Thompson, ND, and David and his husband Art of Denver, CO; two daughters: Judith Mitchell of Littleton, CO and Mona Bilden and her husband Mark of Miles City, MT; 11 grandchildren: Chris, Heidi, Andrea, Amy, Alissa, Jeremy, Carmen, Matthew, David, Larry, and Lance; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, her parents, 2 sisters: Gladys Johnson, and Kathryn Haltli, a son-in-law, Bob Mitchell; and a grandson, Ryan.

We were truly blessed to have known Dorothy. My parents were lucky to have found friends in Dorothy and Myron when they all relocated to Miles City. Dorothy was loved and cared for by her marvelous family, and that’s all any of us can wish for as we age. She will be remembered always. Your memories will be golden.
