Rite of Committal: Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in Miles City.
Dorothy M. Doyle, age 94, passed away at Sturgis Regional Hospital on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.
Dorothy was born on August 19, 1916 in Amidon, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Albert Langer and Julia Buzalsky. She grew up and attended school in the Amidon area and graduated from St. Marys High School in New England, North Dakota in 1934. She then entered nurses training at Holy Rosary School of Nursing in Miles City, Montana and graduated as a registered nurse in 1937. She worked in Miles City at the V.A. Hospital, at the General Hospital in Dickinson, North Dakota, and at the Owatonna City Hospital in Owatonna, Minnesota. In 1944, Dorothy entered the army and began basic training at Patterson Field in Fairfield, Ohio. She was assigned to the 124th General Hospital and was stationed in England, Salsburg and Vienna, Austria. Dorothy became a 1st Lieutenant in 1946. Following her discharge in 1946, she returned to Owatonna, Minnesotathen to Spearfish, South Dakota where she married Joseph Frances Doyle in 1947. The couple moved to Miles City, Montana and had one son, Richard Doyle. Dorothy worked at the local hospital until 1953, when they began operating the Custer County Nursing Home. She was chief nurse until retiring in 1976. Dorothys husband, Joe, passed away in 1974 and she moved to Spearfish, South Dakota after her retirement, where she has lived since. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, and was also a member of St. Anns Alter Society. Dorothy was a very active volunteer in the community.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Doyle, her brother Anton Tony Langer, and her sister Eva Herren. She is survived by her son, Richard Doyle of Nebraska and her brothers, Jim and Joe Langer of Spearfish, South Dakota.
