Dorothy Jurica, age 97, of Billings formerly of Miles City, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at St. Johns Nursing Home in Billings.
Dorothy was born in Puyallup, Washington on July 23, 1910, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Gregg) Mather. Her family moved after she was born from Kansas to Montana, just west of Jordan on a homestead. They moved to Arkansas City, Kansas and she attended and graduated from high school. She then attended college in Dillon, Montana. Dorothy acquired a lifetime teaching certificate from the Normal Teaching College in Dillon, Montana. She taught one room country schools in the Spring Creek,Powderville, Cross S and Ennis communities, until her marriage to Ben in 1938. Dorothy and Ben worked their farm atPowderville from 1939 until 1979, when they retired to Miles City. Dorothy enjoyed teaching, sewing, traveling, and being a homemaker for her family. She was an avid reader and loved doing word puzzles. She enjoyed being involved with the sunshine club inPowderville.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Dennis (Ardelle)Jurica of Spokane, WA; her daughter, Rita (Tom) Anderson of Cody, WY; her grandchildren: Matt Anderson, Greg Anderson, KirkJurica and Kelley Weigand and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ben Jurica in 1990.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be held in the Custer County Cemetery in Miles City. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.
