Dorothy Mae Bott joined her husband on the evening of January 7th, 2024, with her sons at her side in the Holy Rosary Extended Care of Miles City. She was 88 years of age and passed of natural causes.
Dorothy was born December 12, 1935 in the Park Hospital of Forsyth, Montana. She was the youngest of two children born to Ardis and Eula Swart, whom ranched in the Cartersville area.
She spent most of her life in the Rosebud area. While attending school, Dorothy and Marian (sister) spent their summers with their parents on the ranch. Sometimes staying in a sheep wagon while their parents were tending to the livestock. Her mother passed early in Dorothy’s life which was the beginning of her cooking career. The girls stayed with their grandparents during the school year.
Dorothy graduated from Rosebud High School in 1953. She then attended Airline Personnel Training in Omaha, Nebraska receiving certification in Airline Communications. She then began working at the Rosebud County Courthouse until she married the love of her life Willie.
They were joined in marriage June 1st, 1957 and moved to the ranch on Sweeney Creek. Shortly after being married Dorothy gave birth to their first child Robert in 1958, second son James in 1961, and third son Ardis in 1964. They remained on the ranch until the mid-eighties, when they sold the ranch and moved into Rosebud.
In the mid-seventies, Dorothy began her career cooking out of the home. It began at the Rosebud Café. She then cooked at the Rosebud School until her bout with cancer. Her cooking began again with the Big Sky Café in Forsyth, the Rosebud Senior Center in Forsyth and providing Senior meals at the Rosebud School. Somewhere in there she also cooked at the Rosebud County Fair food booth. She made sure her sons new how to cook by making them take cooking in 4-H and entering goods at the fair for at least 3 years each.
Dorothy enjoyed several crafts. Some of her ventures were cross stitch, ceramics, and acrylic fabric painting. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, assembling picture puzzles, and word searches. She served as the organizational leader and cooking leader for the Sweeney Creek Rangers 4-H Club for many years. Later in life Dorothy served on the Rosebud Council for Aging.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband (of 64 years) Willie, Father Ardis Swart, Mother Eula Swart and Step-mother Eva Swart, sister Marian Simpson, and her husband Arnold, brother-in-law Eddie Bott and his wife Beatrice, father and mother in-law Ed and Frances Bott, and grandson Chase Bott
