In Memory Of

Doug Kiosse, age 59 of Miles City.

August 24, 1961 – October 18, 2020

Douglas “Doug” Kiosse, 59, went to be with the Lord at 7:15 p.m. October 18, 2020 at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, MT. While his sister Chris was holding his hand. He was called home after fighting stage 4 lung cancer for several months.

Doug was born August 24, 1961, the youngest of 5 children to William and Shirley (Hom) Kiosse. He grew up on the family ranch on Cross S Creek. Because he was the youngest, he got a lot of attention. He “learned” to be a cowboy at a young age. He galloped his stick horse around the yard dressed in his cowboy gear and hat. Oh what fun he and his dog, Tippy had rounding up his “herd” of chickens until the day the rooster charged him and Tippy protected him by killing it. That caused both of them to get a good spanking. After that he was known as the chicken chaser, to which he replied, “ I am not a chicken chaser, I am a “towboy”. Later in life, he achieved his dream by purchasing a place where he raised chickens, geese, ducks, a few horses and cows, exotic cats, bulldogs, mini Australian Shepard’s, and dachshund dogs.

Doug walked daily to the Cross S School, which was near the family home. He attended there through the 8th grade and went on to Custer County District High School. While there, he lived with Al and Gladdy Turnquist and their boys. They remained lifetime friends. While in school he excelled in track and football. He continued to love sports. He was on several softball and bowling leagues. He loved watching his favorite teams, Miami Dolphins and St. Louis cardinals. He coached many softball and basketball teams for his daughters and many girls in the community. Doug had a great passion for hunting, he was always waiting around for a “big” buck, as he would say. He did, in fact get many big ones, but not big enough for him. His last time hunting he finally got the buck of his dreams and he was so proud of it.

Many nights were spent trying to stay awake watching movies, while eating buttered popcorn, black licorice, and a Diet Coke. Doug was talented as an artist. He loved to do sketches of various things and loved designing signs. Doug married Kathy Dyba in 1992. To this union were born the loves of his life, Kandace Jane, April 9, 1993 and Sharlie Rene, August 2, 1994. Also from this union, he gained two stepdaughters whom he loved like his own, Sandy and Mandy Williamson. Doug worked hard at being an outstanding father to them.

After high school he went to work for Western Industries for many years. The he and his wife ran the kitchen and the Town and Country Club for a while before he went to work for Agri Industries and was Parts Manager at the time of his death. He was a very hard worker. He worked all day, then came home and cared for his animals. He was always inventing something to make life easier. He passed on his work ethics to his daughters.

Doug had the biggest heart and love for others. He loved his daughters more than anything and always encouraged them to do their best at everything. He was able to walk his youngest daughter Sharlie down the aisle a week prior to his death. It was a sight we will all remember. Even at his passing, he gave the precious gift of sight by donating his corneas. What an inspiration to others this man was.

Doug was proceeded in death by His father Bill, his brother Ron, and stepfather Al Ottoy. He is survived by his daughters, Kandace (George) Estepp, of Billings, MT, and Sharlie (David) Becker, of Sheridan, WY, Mother, Shirley Ottoy of Miles City, MT, Sisters Chris (Dennis) Young of Miles City, MT, Sharon Poulos of Fort Worth, TX, and Lora (Kevin) Fuqua of Muleshoe, TX; sister in law Cindy Kiosse. Grandchildren Sophia Becker and Kolton and Karson Estepp.

Memorials may be made at a charity of your choice. Family will receive friends on Tuesday October 27, 2020 from 4-6p.m at Stevenson &Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at 1:00 p.m at Grace Bible Church. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery. Following interment, we will meet back at the church for a reception on celebrating the life of Doug. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.

I am sad. I am very sad. Beaver and Margo and Dennis and Chris in hundreds of ways have been my entire life; and now, Doug, has gone to Heaven. The bad shape in which he had been makes it an easy thing to say he is in a better place, etcetera. But, all of us are still here.
Doug was a friend, he was resolute and honest and caring and an overachiever. The best of all of this is…………………GOD’s plan and GOD’s promise…………..we will all enjoy the………….ethereal J O Y of living with Doug again…………in eternity forever and ever and ever and ever………………….and ever and ever and ever.
