Esther Aileen Waddington, known as Aileen to everyone, was born on April 24, 1931 in Wakonda, South Dakota. Aileen attended school in Wakonda and Avon, South Dakota, and graduated second in her class in Willow Lake, South Dakota. After graduation, Aileen traveled to Texas and Oklahoma and worked at various jobs, often two at a time, and then returned to South Dakota. She lived in Huron for a time, and that is where Della VanBuren introduced Aileen to her nephew, Jack Waddington. Jack and Aileen were married July 26, 1952, three weeks after Jack proposed. They had three children: Mark (Vicki) Waddington of Sidney, Montana, Craig (Betty Dunaway) Waddington of Rapid City, South Dakota, and Marcia Waddington. Aileen and Jack settled in Woonsocket, South Dakota where they lived for many years. Aileen enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, and canning. Aileen worked for thirty-plus years in the school district lunch program at the Woonsocket school, feeding at least two generations of kids there. The kids and grandkids always knew that Aileen had cookies and Schwans ice cream bars stashed in her freezer. Aileen and Jack loved to play Yahtzee together and did so by the hour. Were sure that Jack had the Yahtzee cup out on the table when Aileen arrived in her heavenly home.

Aileen passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2010 at Friendship Villa in Miles City, Montana.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Phillips, her stepfather, Les Phillips, stepsister Wilma Buckland, husband Jack Waddington, daughter Marcia Waddington and step-grandson Todd Bergerson.

Aileen is survived by her stepsister Wanda Steen, sons Mark and Craig, grandchildren Kyndal Waddington, Rob Bergerson (Nanette), Randi Hunter (Brian), Libby Marmom (Zack), and Becca Waddington (Aaron), as well as her great-grandchildren, Jaydon Waddington, Gavin and Kaci Marmom, and Sarah Petersen.

Funeral services will be held in Miles City at Friendship Villa to be announced at a later date. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home.
