LeRoy attended the second grade in a country school at Ismay and the rest of his grade school and high school yearswere spent atSacred Heart in Miles City, graduating in 1945. During high school he played basketball three years and the team he competed with won 2nd twice and 3rd once at State, playing teams from St. Leo's in Lewistown and Great Falls Central. Because of the war, he was unable to play high school football which had been canceled. On his 18th birthday, LeRoy enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in France then at the headquarters in Bamberg, Germany for two years. After his honorable discharge, he returned home where he worked in Miles City and Stevensville, MT on the family farm.

In 1952 LeRoy and Joyce moved to Stevensville, MT where they lived for 13 years on the family farm raising irrigated hay and milking cows. All irrigation pipe was moved by hand and LeRoy decided it was not getting any lighter so he decided he would like to move back to eastern Montana. In 1965, the family moved to Coalwood where they purchased the Bill Patton place. The next 40 years were spent raising kids, calves, wheat and grandkids. LeRoy especially enjoyed this past year commenting often "you are never going to see this country look any better." LeRoy enjoyed watching all of his kids and grandkids participate in their various sports throughout the years. Sometimes being vocal about the referees "wrong" decisions, but always thinking his grandkids were best. He especially enjoyed the younger grandkids running through the house in quest of the "candy drawer." LeRoy was fond of the one ton pickups he purchased namely, "old Ugly" (his 'camo' colored pickup) and three yellow pickups deemed "Lemon."
