In Memory Of

Edith Schmidt

Memorial Service: Friday, January 2, 2008 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Homein Forsyth, MT.

Burial: will follow in the Forsyth Cemetery.

Edith Marie Schmidt, 82Grandma passed away on December 26, 2008 surrounded by her family at the Rosebud Medical Center.

She was born May 11, 1926 to Elmer & Nancy Sample on the Curtis Homestead between Slaughter House and Rosebud Creek outside Forsyth, Montana. She was the ninth of twelve children. She attended the Cross School until she was six when the family moved to the Hardy ranch on Armelles Creek. She then attended the Paul Jone's school until the seventh grade.Grandma spent her time helping on the family farm, working beets and cooking for area farmers until 1945. She married Francis Charles Schmidt, Schmitty on November 6th, 1945. She worked a variety of jobs, including cleaning homes, waiting tables and a cashier at Jacks IGA and The Trading Post, from where she retired. Grandma loved her garden and her crafts. She and Grandpa lived their married lives in Forsyth.

Grandma is survived by her children Walter Schmidt of Anchorage, Alaska, George (Diane) Schmidt and Rita (Bill) FitzGerald, all of Forsyth. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and her sisters Eva Lasater of Forsyth and Margaret Shorty Shrimplin of Buffalo, WY and her companion since Grandpas death, Matt Dillon the cat.

Grandma was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Francis Schmitty. Also, by her parents and her three brothers Art Sample, Bert Sample and Alex Sample and six sisters, Edna Bigfoot Flanagan, Evelyn Sample, Opal Jone's Landreth, Ethel Skinny Byerly, Elsie Squirt Hein and Elma Peabod Rogers, and her grandson, Mick FitzGerald.

We will miss you deeply, but we cherish the time we were blessed with. May you rest now and give Grandpa and Mick a kiss for all of us.
