EDNA PAULINE FISCHER
Edna Pauline Fischer, age 90, passed away on February 4, 2023. She was born April 14, 1932, at Forsyth, Montana, to Rudolph and Bertha (Adams) Fischer. She attended schools in Forsyth and graduated from Forsyth High School in 1949. She lived her entire life on the farm on which she grew up.
Edna was a lifelong member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth. She was baptized May 8, 1932, by Rev. T. Pedersen. This was the same year the church was formally organized. Her godparents were May Houg and Kenneth Beals. Edna was confirmed on May 13, 1945, by Rev. Leo Tormoehlen. She began playing the organ at church part-time when she was 14 years old. She continued playing the next 76 years, full-time for the last 70 of those, outlasting 3 organs and still playing the fourth. Edna was also the current church treasurer, holding that position for more than 40 years. Her ability to work with finances and figures remained sharp until her death.
Edna began working at the First State Bank of Forsyth at the old bank building on May 9, 1949, at the age of 17. She started as a bookkeeper and worked in various positions until becoming Vice President/Cashier on January 1, 1985. She held that position until she retired on June 30, 2019. She was also on the Board of Directors of First State Bank. Edna was honored by the State of Montana Banking Commissioner and the Montana Banking Association for 70 years of service. Her retirement gift from the bank was a new Ford Edge.
Edna was an avid African violet grower. She was able to visit numerous states by attending yearly African Violet conventions. She met a fellow enthusiast and remained in contact with her. In her travels, she also attended a Twins game, an NBA game and took a cruise tour to Alaska where she was able to see Mount McKinley (Denali).
Edna took pleasure in being outside and working in her garden. She also liked to read and was on the Rosebud County Library Board for many years. She enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially hockey and golf. She played golf herself and was very good at it. She had a quiet personality, but a delightful sense of humor.
Edna was very fond of her nephews and is survived by all of them: John (Karen) Fischer of Arizona, Mark Fischer and Randy Fischer of Forsyth, David Fischer of Belgrade, MT, and Brian (Cindy) Fischer of Loveland, CO.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Erhart and Edward, and sister-in-law Shirley.
Memorials may be given to Concordia Lutheran Church in Forsyth, MT.

So sorry for your loss. Edna set the bar high with her faith and work ethic. You are blessed to have her as a mentor all these years. Our church will certainly be lacking her musical ability. I hope one of you inherited her green thumb and can tend her African violets. May God bless all of you as you gather to celebrate her faithful life.

I was sorry to hear that Edna had passed away. My maiden name is Brey and my parents names were Henry and Jennett Brey. They had banked at the First State Bank for years until there passing and knew Edna all these these years. I started banking there in the 60’s and I am still there. Once in awhile when in Forsyth and had banking business I would stop and visit Edna at the bank. She was such a great person . God bless her.

I was sad to hear of Edna’s passing. I enjoyed working with her at the bank for over 10 years. We talked several times about taking a river cruise in Europe, but never could get the timing right. I wish we could have made that happen. We talked about the care of her African Violets quite often, although I did not have the green thumb that she did. My deepest sympathies to all of the family. She will be missed.
Donna Dunning Bends says

Juanita and Paul McDanold says
Our Dear Edna will be missed so much by our Church family. She taught me the correct way to take care of the African Violet she gave me when we worked together as Treasurers in our church for a few years. I will always remember her nice smile and kind ways. She was such a devoted Christian and no one will ever be able to take her place as our organist for so many years. I always admired her faith and quiet ways. May she now enjoy all the glories in Heaven. We loved you Edna and our deepest sympathy to her family
