Edward Carroll Kimball, 92, of Miles City died Oct 16 in Miles City. Ed was born in Hysham to Carroll and Frances Isaac-Kimball and raised in Myers, MT. He was earning his bachelor’s degree in agronomy at Montana State University in Bozeman when WWII started. He left MSU after qualifying for an ROTC scholarship at Harvard where he earned his MBA. After leaving Harvard he attended officer training school and entered the Army as an officer. As part of his service he participated in the amphibious landing that liberated the Philippines in 1944. During the war he also managed the Miyako Hotel in Okinawa. As a result of his college thesis on hydroponic farming, he built a self-sustaining garden at the hotel that fed the generals who were stationed there (including General Eisenhower before he was president).
After the war he moved back to Hysham where he “met the love of his life”. In 1947 he married Mary Louise VanHemelryck and this year they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Ed and Mary Lou started their family in Hysham where he farmed sugar beets. In 1963 they moved to Miles City where Eddie worked at the FHA, 1st Security Bank and Eastern Brokerage Service. Eventually, Ed & Mary Lou purchased the Town Market in Hysham and commuted between the two towns. He started Kimball Realty as a family business and he was an integral part of the commercial development of Miles City along Haynes Avenue.
Ed spent most of his life in banking and real estate, but his true love was farming. He loved to be out on the tractor or walking around the fields. Music also played a big part of his life and he played the saxophone in his Army Band.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou who died four weeks earlier. His survivors include his seven children, John (Bobbin) of Stevensville; Rich of Anchorage, AK; Jerry (Carolyn) of Miles City; Jim (Kristy) of Miles City; Colette (David) Harris of Miles City; Dale of Miles City; Scott (Angeline) of Highlands Ranch, CO. Ed had 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. My thoughts go out to your family as you are going through the process of losing another family member. However, the spirit of one needs to be with the spirit of the other in a situation like this. They were 2 halves that made a whole. We are thinking of you at this time!

Greetings Kimball family,
First of all, to Scott, thank you for communicating with me as well as you have.
Secondly, God bless you all during this time. It seems that this is an occasion that is more happy than sad as Ed and Mary Lou are together again and did not have to be apart for very long. They both had a wonderful life together and with all of you and your kids. When it’s all said and done, that’s as much as we can ask.
Still, I am sorry for your losses. May they rest in peace together forever.
God’s blessings to you all, Shumon Pius and family.

Dear family and friends of Edward Carroll Kimball – I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. May God give you peace and comfort through his sure promises to end pain, mourning and death (Revelation 21:4). At that time no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). Almighty God also promises to fulfill our desires, not just our needs (Psalms 145:16). Cherish all the happy memories of Mr. Kimball and be further comforted by the Bible (John 17:3).

David and I are so happy that we were able to talk with Eddie when we were in Miles City in early September. He was warm and funny and lovable. I remember him dancing with Mary Lou at the Red Rock Village, and when she got tired he danced with Leona, Katie, and other lucky ladies. He had such a great spirit. We’re glad he and Mary Lou are together again and happy. You all took wonderful care of them, you can be proud.

Kimball family…it was such an honor to have had a part in the last few years of your parent’s lives. They were such classy people … Very polite, appreciative, uncomplaining, intelligent, . and just plain classy — so gracefully accepting what was happening to them in the aging process. I sorely miss seeing them but it made my heart ache seeing them fail…it surely wasn’t fair what happened with Your dad. He reminded me so much of Uncle Marc. They both had such wonderful senses of humor, too !!! You must have had a lot of laughing these past days and weeks recounting all of your escapades as children and teenagers and your parent’s handling of them. They must have prematurely grayed . I pray for peace in your hearts and smiles to soon replace the tears when you think of them.
Sally Rehbein says
John and family,
