Edwin Aldo Falkenstern, age 85, of Terry passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings.
Edwin was born December 16, 1923 in Terry, Montana. His parents Emanuel and Mary Brosz Falkenstern were German immigrants from South Russia, who homesteaded in the Watkins community. Edwin attended Terry Schools and graduated in 1941. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific and returned to Terry following the war. On July 2, 1948 Eddie and Diane Larsen were married in Terry. Eddie joined his father in the farm implement business in Terry. After his father's death in 1951, Eddie was joined in the business by his eldest brother Emanuel. Eddie continued to operate Falkenstern Implement until his retirement in 1991. Edwin enjoyed fishing trips with friends, traveling, hiking in the Badlands north of Terry, gardening, and reading. Throughout his life Eddie was committed to his family, friends and the Prairie County community. Edwin was a member of the Terry Community Presbyterian Church, Terry Masonic Lodge, and the American Legion Post 32.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emanuel, Arnold, Oswald, and infant brother Aldo, and sisters, Edna Leach and Clara Glantz. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Diane, son Ryen L. Falkenstern of Nashua, daughter Kathryn M. Falkenstern of Portland, Oregon, daughter-in-law Linda Falkenstern, son-in-law Joe Ediger, sister Adele Jens of Terry, and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 1:00 pm at the Terry Community Presbyterian Church in Terry with Pastor Leon Rathbun officiating. Pallbearers are David Larsen, Lorin Larsen, Jamy Frost, Gary Huber, Clinton Rakes, and Andy Pehl. Honorary Pallbearers are David Covert, John Latimer, Bob Lantis, Gordon Knuths, Leon Rathbun, Robert Larsen, and Larry Jens. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Prairie County Cemetery with full military honors.
If friends should desire, memorials may be made to the Terry Community Presbyterian Church, Prairie Community Nursing Home, or the Prairie County Library
