On the morning of May 20, 2019, Eleanor Hartmann passed away at home, free of all illnesses.
Eleanor was born on January 26, 1931 in Denver, Colorado to Frank and Helen Sward, joining sisters Marian and Jeannette. Eleanor spent all of her school years in Denver, when she met her handsome cowboy, Don Hartmann. They married on July 8, 1951 and he moved her to the ranch in Montana. To this union, two children were born: Daughter Vickie in 1953 and Son Wyatt in 1957.
Eleanor was involved in Cowbelles, Eastern Star, and was very active in her kids 4-H programs. She was also a member of the Locate-Knowlton Home Demonstration Club. She accompanied Don on many fair board conventions trips and in later years they enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. After she and Don moved to town, Eleanor worked many years at Osco Drug and later volunteered at the Holy Rosary gift shop and blood drives. She and Don became very involved in the Presbyterian Church where she served on several committees. Eleanor was very proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Sward; husband Don; sisters Marian Varga and Jeannette Cobb; aunt and uncle Foster and Evelyn Evans. She is survived by her daughter Vickie (Dave) Gunderson of Colstrip, MT; son Wyatt of Miles City, MT; grandson Clay (Kristin) Gunderson and great granddaughter Amy of Valencia, CA; granddaughter Cara (David) Benson and great grandsons Trueston, Camden and Colton of Billings, MT; grandsons Ash Hartmann of Henderson, CO and Derrick Hartmann of Brighton, CO.

Dear Hartmann family, my heart is heavy with sadness. I’ve know your mom for so many years, from her days at Thompson Rexall. I was fortunate enough to reconnect with her when Don was so ill. May you carry her memory in your heart and know that she will be with you always. Prayers to all of her family. Fly hi Eleanor.

Mary Beth Kibler says
I am so sorry to see the passing of your Mom. I remember her so well from our high school days always smiling and supporting us in everything we did. She & Don were our champions in all of the little battles we had at that time of our lives. Eleanor was quiet, but had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a strong woman who worked very hard with no complaints. It is so hard when our Parents go home to be with Jesus, but I believe Heaven is a wonderful place and they are just a memory away. You have many wonderful memories…visit them often.

Tom and I are so sorry for your loss. Your Mom was such a very kind and beautiful woman. Her loss will be felt by so many and many you may not even realize or hear from. All these heartfelt comments are a true testament of her loving soul and the many lives she touched. While it may not be the same as physical comfort, when your grief seems especially hard to bear, take time to tune everything out and focus on the wonderful memories you have of the loving parents you were blessed with.
