Eleanor “Ellie” (Walker) Nelson of Miles City, MT passed away on Friday, September 16, 2022 at Canyon Creek Memory Care in Billings, MT., after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Ellie was born on February 6, 1940 to George and Grace Walker in Cody Wyoming. She attended school in Musselshell Montana graduating in 1958. She had to pass a swimming test, (which she barely passed, as she was deathly afraid of water), in order to attend MSU. She married Don Nelson on April 11, 1959. They moved to Miles City in 1961. She worked for the VA Hospital, then as a legal secretary for Bill Jardine of Lucas and Jardine Law Offices. She then went to work for Attorney Jack Carr, until she retired. She was very intelligent and knowledgeable about law. She loved going to the ranch west of Melstone on weekends and even spent a few summers working there. She was a great cook and loved to entertain. She could have a hundred guests over and not even bat an eye with feeding everyone. The door was always open! She was the master of crossword puzzles and loved animals. She loved playing pinochle with her children and grandchildren. Nothing was more important to her than her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, and her parents.
She is survived by son Keith Nelson of Melstone MT and sons Aaron (Jill) of Las Vegas NV, and Nick (Elaina) of Denver CO; Paula (Earl) Howe of Miles City and their sons Ryan (Presley) of Sheridan WY, and Kyle (Jenna) of Bismarck ND; daughter Sheila Gunstone and her sons Daniel and Shane of Lake Tapps, WA.; Great grandson Henry Nelson (son of Aaron and Jill); Great granddaughters Brynna, and Kinsley Howe, (daughters of Kyle and Jenna). She is also survived by her brothers George Jr., and Richard, and sister Susan.
Should friends desire memorials can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Foundation, or a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank Canyon Creek Memory Care in Billings, MT, for excellent care that our mom was given over several years.

We are saddened that Eleanor has moved on but we are sure her family can be relieved that her suffering has ended. Our family benefitted greatly from her efforts as Jack Carr’s muse and secretary. The sometimes sharp banter between those two would have made an interesting comedy skit. She was a competant ,efficient but caring person. Our condolences to family members.

We were so so sorry to learn of the passing of Eleanor. I can always remember my dad and how he would talk so fondly of Eleanor. And what a sense of humor she had and she had such a twinkle in her eye. I know my dad thought the world of her. She will be missed by so many!!

So sorry to hear about your mom but also relieved to know she is no longer living in that ugly world of alzheimers. We have many years of wonderful memories with your family but I will treasure most our fun times bowling, and bowling trips! Ellie was always so fun and welcomed everyone. Uncle Buck will meet her with open arms along with so many others and the party will begin. You are all in our Thoughts and Prayers! ❤

So sorry to hear of Eleanor’s passing. I haven’t seen her in years but knew we were cousins. I kept a bit closer to her sister over the years. It is exciting to see of family members who value their families, for in the end, this is all we have; love and history of our family. Rest in peace Eleanor>
