Ellen Jane Wells, age 74, of Plains, Montana formerly of Miles City passed away on Friday, September 17, 2004 at the Clark Fork Valley Nursing Home in Plains.
Ellen was born in Inglewood, South Dakota on March 3, 1930, the daughter of Rowland and Dorothy (Dillavou) Merrill. She attended schools in South Dakota and graduated from high School in Lead, South Dakota. Ellen married Raymond Ray Huffman in 1949. To this union, four children were born: Donna, Billy, Clayton and Linda. They later divorced. Ellen attended beauty school in Miles City. After her schooling, she moved back to Lead where she worked at a beauty shop for twoyears before moving to Miles City. On July 5, 1962, she married Vorice H. Wells. To this union, a son Jay was born. In 1969, they moved to Harlowton, Montana. While in Harlowton, Ellen worked as the cook at the hospital. She lived there until 1995, when she moved to Plains, Montana where she remained until the time of her death.
Ellen loved horses and camping. She claimed her biggest thrills were horseback camping in the Bob Marshall Wilderness, and touring Europe. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, knitting, and made every grandchild an afghan. Ellen was also a veracious reader.
Ellen is survived by her children: Donna Sword of Las Vegas, NV; Billy Huffman of Plains, MT; Clayton Huffman ofFallon., MT; Jay Wells of Great Falls, MT.; Larry Wells of Butte, MT; and Janie Capser of Alaska; a sister, BeverlyAlfrey of Rigby, ID; a sister-in-law, Jane Merrill of Rigby, ID; Please add Ellen is survived by numours grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vorice H. Wells; a daughter, Linda; two brothers: Charles Merrill and Billy Merrill; a sister, Patricia Weiers; and a daughter by marriage Shirley Quinlan.
