Elnora Hoffer, age 89, of Miles City passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2015 surrounded by her family, two days before her 90th birthday.
Elnora was born on September 14, 1925 on the Henry Selzle Ranch near Marsh, Montana, the youngest child of Henry and Emma Selzle. Her siblings were Edna and Ella. She grew up on the family ranch and attended the Strobel School. After graduating from Terry High School, she worked in a small grocery store in Fallon until her marriage to Erwin Hoffer. Erwin and Elnora Hoffer were married on her parent’s anniversary November 11, 1945. They celebrated their 25th and 50th anniversaries together.
Erwin and Elnora purchased the Henry Selzle ranch in 1948. This was where Elnora was born and raised. The Hoffers raised a family of seven children: Gerald, Gary, Gordon, Gloria, Glenda, Georgiann and Ginger. In 1976, they retired from the ranch on Cabin Creek and moved to Fallon, Montana. Elnora worked at the Senior Center in Fallon cooking weekly senior meals and transporting seniors to appointments. In retirement, Erwin and Elnora thoroughly enjoyed bus tours to Branson, the New England States, Boston and New York were her favorites. Erwin passed away in 1993. Elnora continued to live in Fallon until 1997, when she purchased a home in Miles City. In 2011, Elnora moved to the Eagles Manor in Miles City, residing there until her massive stroke on September 2, 2015. She was looking forward to celebrating her 90th birthday on September 14, 2015.
Elnora’s hobbies included quilting, gardening, reading, caring for her flower tree, square dancing, preparing family dinners. Many treasured memories were made living on the ranch on Cabin Creek including swimming parties, brandings, 4th of July celebrations and the annual oyster fry shared by family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed family visits and phone calls, Lawrence Welk every Saturday night, her hard candy, desserts, cinnamon rolls and ice cream on a stick.
Elnora is survived by her son, Gary (Robin) Hoffer of Ronan, MT; daughters: Gloria (Chuck) Harzke of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; Glenda Hoffer (Ron Bartkowski) of Miles City, MT; Georgiann (Jon) Davis of Rathdrum, ID; Ginger (Karl) Mueller of Miles City; a daughter-in-law Betsy Hoffer of Glendive, MT; a sister Ella Siegle of Glendive, MT; thirteen special grandchildren who loved their grandma very much: Stephanie Anderson, Vaughn Hoffer, Angie Rau, Shiloh Hoffer, Brad, Brett, Braydon and Bryan Davis, Cody & Tyrel Hess, Bethany & Kyle Mueller; fourteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Emma Selzle, her husband Erwin, sister Edna Feickert, infant brothers Richard and Elmer, children Gordon and Gerald, Grandson Kirby Hoffer, son-in-law Patrick Flaherty.
