Elsie Avens, age 98, of Miles City

Elsie Lorraine Avens was born in Krem, North Dakota on December 26, 1924 to Gottleib Reinhart and Elizabeth Benz Reinhart. She grew up in that area and attended school in Hazen, North Dakota.

After completing school Elsie worked in Bismarck, North Dakota. She then returned to Hazen to work and to take care of her parents. This continued until 1972 when she moved to Billings, Montana. Working there until she retired.

In 1973 she met the love of her life, Harold Avens. They married in 1974 and enjoyed many years together until Harold passed away in 2011.

After Harold’s passing Elsie spent some time in Billing, Montana before moving to Miles City, Montana to be closer to family. In 2022 she moved to an assisted living home in Terry, Montana where she lived until her passing.

Elsie is survived by three stepsons: Richard Avens, Harold Avens Jr. of Glendive, Montana, Jeffrey Avens of Glendive, Montana and two stepdaughters: Sharon (Les) Widman of Glendive, Montana, Mardy (Roy) Kelm of Magazine, Arkansas, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

A graveside service will be held in Billings, Montana at Mountview Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting stevensonandsons.com.
