Elsie Evelyn Sanburn, age 90, of Broadus passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2003 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus.
Elsie was born on December 17, 1912 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of George and Alice (Murray) McLellan. She was raised, by her aunt Elsie because of her mothers death in, Davenport, Iowa and graduated from high school at Davenport High School. She moved to Wyoming where she met Hugh Nathaniel Buzz Sanburn, they later married in Gillette, Wyoming in 1933. They lived on several homesteads in the area before moving to Vancouver, Washington where they worked in the shipyards during World War II. After the war, they moved back to Gillette where they ranched. In 1953, they moved to Miles City where they ran H. H. Grocery Store. They sold the grocery store and moved to Broadus where Elsie worked as the dietitian at the school. In 1964, Buzz passed away and she moved to Spokane, Missoula, Casper, Carson City, Nevada, Gillette, Wyoming, and finally back to Broadus where she remained until the time of her death. Elsie enjoyed doing craft work, crocheting, embroidering, playing bingo, cards and the slot machines in Deadwood. Elsie loved being around people and was known for her quick-witted sense of humor and her kind and loving personality.
Elsie is survived by three daughters: Billie Alice Gatlin of Broadus, MT; Cora Jane Robinson of East Wenatchee, WA; Joan Luellen Sanburn of Forks, WA; a sister, Madaline Hermann of Seabrook, TX; nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Buzz, a son Charles Hugh Sanburn, a daughter Helen Lucille Harrod, and a brother at infancy.
