I want to hug Elsie just thinking about her. The Lord gave her a special ability to “come along side”. After my sophomore year and junior year of college I worked at Reynolds when they were down town Miles City. I was the girl from the country who knew some about farming but nothing about living in town or working at a store. What a blessing Elsie was! She was there for my every “lost” moment whether I was cleaning the produce display cases or stocking the spice shelves. She let me help her with eggs when she needed someone. As you know she was the egg lady. She taught me so much and was always so encouraging. Hebrews 10:24
I became a checker my second summer of working at Reynolds. When someone would charge their groceries, as the checker we asked them to sign their grocery receipt and put it in our cash register drawer. One day I forgot to have a lady sign her receipt. It was for $100 worth groceries (large amount in summer of 1967). I kept calculating how many hours I would have to work for no pay to repay Reynolds (I made $1.49 an hour). Elsie came to me and asked me to walk with her. Of course we went to the egg room. She assured me that it would be okay and I would not have to give up my wage check. Bless Elsie and the bookkeepers hearts, they were able to tell who had bought the groceries by the number of gallons of milk that was purchased. How very thankful I was!!!!
In recent years, when I would be in the dining room with my Uncle Milton Benge and Aunt Hughette, Elsie was always her sweet self and seemed to remember me.
We trust that you will all enjoy sharing your precious memories with one another,

Dear Family and Friends of Elsie Herndon – Please be comforted by promises found in the Bible at this difficult time. Continue to dwell on the happy memories and fine qualities that you remember about Ms. Herndon. The Bible book of Hebrews reminds us that God does not forget all of the love and fine works shown by Ms. Herndon (Heb 6:10). Please look forward to the joy of again seeing Ms. Herndon in perfect Paradise conditions. Faith in these Bible promises will hopefully ease the pain of loss. Meanwhile we have the opportunity to follow Jesus’ instruction to continue to take in Bible knowledge that leads to everlasting life (John 17:3).

My sister and I grew up in the 50s and 60s in Harlowton and Elsie and Walter were my parents Lee and Ruth Walkers best friends for several decades, and continued the friendship after Elsie lost Walter. After we grew up we both commented on what hard workers Elsie and Mother were and what great values we learned from them. We learned the correct way to fish from Walter and Dad!!! Elsie was a great listener to and for us. I remember hoping above all hope i could be half as good of housekeeper and cook that Elsie was!! I swear she never sat down. I lost my sister too young and my parents to an accident 11 yrs ago and had lost track of where Elsie must have moved to. i was always sorry for that but life as it does for all of us became complicated but i believe much of how i was able to handle the tragedies and tough times life can throw at you was because of what these four wonderful people taught me. May you truly Rest in Peace Elsie. THANK YOU for the wonderful life’s lesson you bestowed upon us. I am a better person because you and Walter were part of my young life. Everytime i walk past a garden and smell fresh Dill i will think of you and Mother and enjoy the fragrance and memories. To Elsie’s family, i am so very glad you had Elsie for so long. Enjoy wonderful memories like I will. I will enjoy knowing heaven is better now because of a wonderful exchange of fishing trip stories and how to properly do crocheting and tatting!!!
