Graveside Service: Custer County Cemetery

Elsie Regina (Knopp) Zabroski, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Healthcare Center in Miles City.

Elsie was born on May 3, 1943 in Miles City, Montana the daughter of Gideon and Mary (Wells) Knopp. She grew up and attended schools in Miles City. On April 18, 1965 she married Bill Zabroski and they remained living in Miles City for the remainder of their married life. Four children were born into their family: Micheal – born in l967, Neil – born in 1970, her only daughter, Robyn, born in 1972, and Bill born in 1974. She not only raised her children but also played a huge part in the lives of many others in and around Miles City. She enjoyed being “Mom” to all of her kids. A lifelong resident of Miles City, Elsie had various jobs throughout the years. She retired from the Pine Hills School where she had worked in the kitchen for several years.

She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and collecting recipes and spent many happy hours doing them. She also loved to line dance and spending time with hermultitude of friends. She volunteered many hours in the kitchen at the VFW where she was an auxiliary member and was involved in the projects they worked on.She and Bill became members of the Volunteer Fire Dept. where Elsie earned the distinction of becoming the first female Fire Chief in the state of Montana. She is also a past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge here in Miles City. She was a member of several organizations throughout Miles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gideon and Mary Knopp, her son-Micheal, her husband-Bill, her daughter-Robyn, a sister-Alice , 2 brothers-Lonnie and Bob and a granddaughter.

Survivors include her sons Neil and Bill both of Missoula,MT, her close friend Jim Sappe of Miles City, her sister Pam (Phillip Treu) of Sheridan, WY, her brother Roger Knopp of Columbus, MT; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as extended family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery.
