Ellie was born in Plaza, North Dakota on October 27, 1924 to John and Ellen Stokke. When she was three months old, her mother passed away. She came to Outlook, Montana and was raised by an uncle and aunt, John and Rachel Emilson. Ellie had one brother, Merlyn, who was two years older and preceded her in death. She grew up with two foster brothers, Orrin and Arthur Kleppen and attended school in Outlook.
On March 14, 1943 Ellie and Orris Galland were married in Muskogee, Oklahoma. When Orris came out of the service in 1945 they farmed the Bill Reid place for 6 years. In 1952, they bought an irrigated farm at Fallon. Four children were raised on this place: Janette, Margaret, Dale, and Connie.
After Orris passed away in 1986, Ellie continued living on the farm as son Dale took over and helped. She drove the beet truck, silage truck, and whatever needed done; Ellie always had the coffee pot on, homemade cake, or cookies for anyone that stopped by. Ellie would fly to Florida every 2 or 3 years to spend time with her brother and his family.
In 1997 the farm was sold and Ellie moved to Terry. Her days were busy. She enjoyed working at the Prairie Unique gift shop with “Montana Made” things and hobby items. She enjoyed going to coffee every morning with the ladies at the Senior Citizen’s Center. There were birthday parties to attend and card playing every Saturday night at the center. Every Friday night a group of ladies known as the “Prairie Chicks” ate out. Ellie served on the Prairie County Election Board and Council on Aging. She was a longtime member of the LWML and Prairie County Hospital Guild. She enjoyed the Senior Center dinners twice a week, attending church in Fallon each Sunday, and spending one day a week during the winter quilting at the church.
Ellie is survived by one son Dale (Kathy) Galland of Fallon, three daughters: Margie (Bill) Feickert of Terry, Connie (Tom) Young of Plentywood, and Jan (Glenn) Bryant of Avondale, AZ. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Jackie (Bob) Galland of Plentywood and Milly (Merlyn) Stokke of Albia, Iowa. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

To all of Ellie’s family,
Prairie County has lost a wonderful person. Ellie has been a part of my church family for the past 37 years, and we made quilts for LWML together. In all of the years I’ve known her, she was always so upbeat and I never heard her speak ill of anyone. Cherish your memories. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time. With deep sympathy,
Gary & Cathy

Dear family and friends of Elvina J. Galland – I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. May God give you peace and comfort through his sure promises to end pain, mourning and death (Revelation 21:4). At that time no one will say “I am sick” (Isaiah 33:24). Almighty God also promises to fulfill our desires, not just our needs (Psalms 145:16). Cherish all the happy memories of Mrs. Galland and be further comforted by the Bible (John 17:3).
