Elvira Woodenthigh, 64, Otseemeoo’e, “Brave Standing Woman” (named after Harriet Littlebird) of Lame Deer passed away on July 25, 2025, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Elvira was born on December 10, 1960 in Crow Agency, Montana to Daniel Foote and Joy Whitewolf Foote. Elvira spent her early years in Lame Deer, Montana. She later moved to Ashland where she met Melvin Woodenthigh, Sr. Elvira married Melvin Woodenthigh, Sr. in 1979 and they had 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Elvira attended school at St. Labre Indian School. She was employed at the Chicken Coop, Lame Deer Head start and Lame Deer High School. Elvira enjoyed cruising around and listening to rock n roll.
Elvira’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. She shared a special bond with each one of them, caring for them deeply and wholeheartedly. They meant the world to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Her love for them was boundless, and her presence in their lives was a constant source of warmth and comfort.
Elvira is proceeded in death by her parents Daniel Foote and Joy Whitewolf Foote, grandparents, Joseph Whitewolf Sr., and Alice Beartusk Whitewolf, Eddie Foote Sr, and Margaret Littlehead, uncles; Isadore and Joseph Whitewolf, Jr. aunt; Arvelos Whitewolf, daughter; Michelle Clubfoot, nephew Paul Foote and grandson Trevor Russell.
Elvira is survived by her husband of 46 years; Melvin Woodenthigh, Sr., her children; Lacie (Justin), Melvin Jr, David, Pamela, and Floyd Woodenthigh, and grandchildren; Melvin III, Evelyn Joy, Eva Mae, Ruby Ann, Jemma, Lyle, Perasia, Virjema, Deanna, Laiken, Valcarrie, special grandchild, Curtis Selage Jr., great grandchildren; Ezra, Eliza, Ean jr, Laveyah, siblings; Christie Foote, Edward (Millie) Foote, Joseph (Mary) Foote, Sr., sister in-laws’ Annie (JC) Bement, Clara Harris, Theda Foote, Germaine(Monte) Haugen, Iola (Cleveland Bement) Woodenthigh, aunts; Justine, Letha, Eloise Whitewolf, and Priscilla Robinson, adopted brother; George Littlehead, Dale RoundStone, David Swank, adopted sisters; Emma King, Geri Small, Event Spottedwolf, Charoltte Rusabove, adopted children; Loyreen American Horse, Lurilla Archambault, Monica Limberhand, Darren SpottedElk, Ivory Russell.
The family would like to thank the medical facilities at the St Vincent Hospital for caring for Elvira.
