Elvy M. Woods, age 96, ofAshland, MT passed away at the Big Horn hospital in Hardin, MT on October 27, 2005.
Elvy was born on September 15, 1909 in Lund, Sweden to August and Engaborg (Palm) Maak. She was three months old when she came to America, where she lived in Minneapolis, MN with her parents and sister Florence who was born in 1913. They stayed for about three years before moving to Billings, MT where her brother Carl was born in 1922. On August 3, 1936,Elvy Maak and Oscar Carl Woods were married. They then lived on a place at Lodge Grass below the Willow Creek Dam, until they bought a ranch at Stacy, Montana and moved there in 1941.
Elvy and OC loved riding horses and did so as their main enjoyment. Oscar passed away in 1968 and Elvy lived with her son in Ashland on the Otter Creek on his Ranch. Elvy continued to enjoy riding up until 2 years ago. She loved music and had a teaching certificate to teach music. She canned everything and had a large garden. She loved to make dishes out of apples and loved to care for the colts.
Elvy is survived by her son Richard Bert Woods of Ashland, MT, daughterSigna (Calvin) Rice of Broadus, MT, her brother Carl Maak of Spokan, WA, sister Florence Gress of Broadus, MT, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a foster daughter, Janet Rice.
She is preceded in death by her husband OC, and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 31, 2005 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 1:00 pm at the Ashland Christian Fellowship Church in Ashland, MT. Interment will follow in the Willow Crossing Cemetery in Otter Creek, MT. My husband and I found the grave of this lady who is my relative. Her Mother was my Grandfather’s sister. His name was Louis Hanson from Trimont Minnesota. I wish I had know her. She had many of the same interests that I have namely horses and music.
