Emily K. Schumacher, age 82, of Wolf Point, Montana passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Faith Lutheran Home in Wolf Point. She was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2002.
Emily was born on July 15, 1925 in Eureka, South Dakota to Christ and Rosina Treftz. As a young child they traveled by horse and wagon to Montana and homesteaded outside of Richey.On April 14, 1946 she married Fred Schumacher in Sidney, Montana. They farmed and ranched south of Wolf Point all their lives, until 2004 when she moved into Faith Home.Mom worked hard on the family farm providing for her children. She especially enjoyed working in the garden, canning and raising chickens. She was proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed caring for them. Grandma made sure they were always well fed.
Survivors include her six daughters, Judy Thoresen (Jon) of Willmar, MN, Connie Toavs (Philip) of Sidney, MT, Linda Edinger of Helena, MT, Carolyn Sorensen (David) of Fort Peck, MT, Betty MacDonald and Carla Hunsley (Roger) all of Wolf Point; one son, Jerry of the family farm, four sisters, Martha McCloy, Helen Beres and Joan Baker all of Glendive, MT and Clara Baker of Billings, MT, one brother, Gordon Treftz of Chinook, MT, fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fred in 2000, one grandson, Coy Toavs in 2005, her parents and brothers Gust, Sam, Henry and Elmer.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 12 at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be Monday, August 13, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolf Point with Pastor George Draper officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Wolf Point. Emily enjoyed all of her many friends and staff at Faith Lutheran Home and appreciated all the visits from friends and family during her stay there.
