Erling Thompson passed away at his home in Colstrip on January 6, 2007 after several months of declining health.
Erling was born February 2, 1938 in Northfield, MN to Selmer and Linnea Thompson. He grew up on a farm and attended High Prairie School (one-room country school) through the 8th grade. He graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1956 and went on to attend Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD and Mankato State College in Mankato, MN.His career was in accounting and bookkeeping for businesses in Minnesota, and Columbus and Sidney Montana before retiring from Montana Power in Colstrip, MT.
On May 10 1986 Erling and Barbara Firestone were united in marriage in Colstrip where they made their home. Erling enjoyed woodworking, building cabinets and having coffee with his friends.
Erling is survived by his wife Barbara of Colstrip; sister Carol Dye and her husband, Gerald of Billings. He is also survived by two nephews; Michael Dye and his wife Marci of Red Lodge, MT and David Dye and his wife Pamela Mills of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are Michael and Marcis three children of Red Lodge, Eric, Anna and Noah.
Cremation has taken place and internment will be held in Minnesota at a later date.
