In Memory Of

Erma Rumph, age 96, of Biddle.

November 18, 1918 – June 5, 2015

Erma Rumph, 96, passed away at the family home in Biddle, MT on Friday, June 5, 2015.

Erma was born on November 18, 1918 to Raymond and Ada (Adams) Weischedel. She was the oldest of seven children. She was raised on the family homestead at the head of Olmsted Creek north of Recluse, WY. She attended country school near her home and high school in Gillette, WY. She took her Normal Training at the University of Wyoming and then began teaching at rural schools in Campbell County, Wyoming.

During World War II she worked in Cheyenne, WY for the war industry, mounting machine gun brackets on B-17s.

In 1945 she married Roland Rumph. They moved to his parents homestead on Butte Creek in southeastern Montana. In 1949 they purchased a small piece of land and the general store at Biddle, MT. where they raised their family.

Erma was a life-long learner who served as an inspiration to all who knew her. She was an avid reader and was rumored to have read all the books in the local library, maybe even twice! Her ability to garden was enviable; she raised tomato plants for distribution throughout the community. She was joyful when the seed catalogs arrived in the cold and snowy month of January. She knew spring wasn’t far from coming. Quilting was a passion of Erma’s; all of her grandchildren have been the recipients of her beautiful, colorful quilts.

Erma is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Roland, their children, Delmar (Jan), Dick (Holly), Donna (Kenny) Dague, Kermit (Valerie), Nathan (Connie), Quentin (Charlene), Jim (Sophia), Tom (Kitty) Riggs, and Owen (Mary); twenty-six grandchildren and thirty three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Biddle Community Heritage Center. A luncheon will be served following the service. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Broadus is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

Memorials can be made in memory of Erma to the Henry Malley Memorial Library, Broadus, MT 59317.

My deepest sympathy to all of you. Since I have entered adulthood I have lost track of what goes on in the Biddle/Broadus/Belle Creek area but when I run into an obit for someone I knew it sure makes me sad and more that a little homesick. Irma was a grand lady with a warm and welcoming heart. I know she will be missed by all of you. In case you are not remembering me, I am RQ Warford’s granddaughter and Jennie Warford’s oldest daughter. God bless and sooth your sad hearts.

Add your thoughts and memories. Upon approval they will be added.
