Ernest Stub Holum, age 93, passed away Saturday May 8, 2010 in Billings, MT

Ernest was born on July 31, 1916 in Enid, MT to Andrew and Mae Holum. He grew up in the Sidney/Savage MT area helping his dad farm on the Hall place near Savage and then, during the war, farmed with his brother-in-law Jack Gray on the Lalonde place. From there he moved on to construction with his brother Doc and brother-in-law Jack Gray working on the Lalond Hotel in Sidney, the REA building in Sidney and Fort Peck Dam.Stubs career took him many places including Terry, Great Falls, Billings, Hardin, Libby, Conrad and finally to Colstrip in 1973. He met Roberta Conway while working in Hardin and they were married on June 4, 1961. Together they raised two children and two special children.

Stub retired in 1982 and in the spring of 1983 he returned to work the turnaround each spring which he did until 1991. He cared for Roberta after her diagnosis of breast cancer until she passed away in July of 1994. He was too lonely to sit at home so he began going down to Culver Entertainment which became his new job. He could work at his own pace while there but still insisted on his Union coffee breaks at 10:15 and 2:15.Stub enjoyed being with family and children, cars, rodeos and bull riding (spectator only), car races and bump n runs. He was a Colstrip High School basketball fan (Thank you Colstrip Sports Network). He was also Project Supervisor/Inspector for all of his childrens projects. He loved his desserts and ice cream and a beer at the end of the day. Stub was a member of the Carpenters Union for over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Roberta; brother Elster (Doc) Holum; sisters Doris Evans and Alice (Earl) Wilson and nephews Johnny and Lavern Wilson and Bobby Conway.

He is survived by his children Greg (Lorna Folda) Holum and three girls and Shelly Holum; two special children Livie (Mike) Sample and their five children and Jimmy (Raelynn) Geurin and their five children; sister Myrtle Gray; nieces and nephews Gary (Diana) Gray, Pudda (Marvin) Henderson, Johnny Gray, Arlene (Johnny) McCurdy, Denise (Mark) Baune, Dennis (Sandi) Conway and Deryl Conway and brother-in-law Robert Conway.
