Ernie Eugene Nielsen, age 68, of Manhattan, Montana, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital.

Ernie was born on May 21, 1942, in Plentywood, the son of Arne Henry Nielsen and Evelyn Pedersen. He attended grade school in Hiawatha and graduated high school from Medicine Lake High. He entered the U.S. Army where he served for four years, then returning home to help on the family farm and for Farmer Co-op. He then moved to Miles City, and worked for Allis Chalmers in the parts department. On June 4, 1966, he married Sandra Hirsch, and they lived at Angela, moving to Kinsey in 1971, where they farmed and ranched until 1986. They then moved to Miles City, and he worked for Pine Hills School until 2000. Ernie then moved to Boulder and then to East Helena until he retired in 2009. After retiring, he moved to Bozeman, where the couple purchased their retirement home. Ernie was an avid pool player, and he loved fishing, hunting, bowling, playing horse shoes, and trap shooting.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Sandra Nielsen, of Manhattan, MT; his son, Chris Nielsen, of Miles City; his daughter, Raechell Nielsen of Bozeman, MT; his brother, Allen Nielsen of Kent, WA; and his sisters, Joy Keil of Dagmar, MT, Diane Hobbs of Kent, WA, and Cheryl Bowen of Worden, MT.
