Ervin F. (Doc) Elliott
January 8, 1926 – November 7, 2019
Dad was born on a cold and snowing date, January 8, 1928 in a little shack on Muddy Creek with his Grandmother and tradition midwife Gramma Harris welcoming him into the world.
He was the oldest of 7 children born to Lafe and Elizabeth (Tootsie) Elliott and was raised on the divide between Clubfoot Creek and Muddy Creek. He traveled by horse and horse pulled wagon to the one room school house at the forks of Muddy. When he finished 8th grade and moved on to high school, he boarded in Forsyth for a short time before attending and graduation from Colstrip High School in 1946.
Doc, as he was known thanks to Jack Bailey in recollection of something to do with old trappers on the Rosebud Creek, was an outstanding athlete in High School. He played in the 1946 East-West Shrine game and was a Standout Golden Glove boxer.
He spent the first winter out of school living on the divide caring for the family ranch while the rest of the family moved to a place on Rosebud Creek that his dad and brother built from the ground up. Dad was drafted into the Army in 1950 and served in the Korean Conflict. He quickly rose to the rank of Master Sergeant and always spoke highly of men with whom he served. He served with pride and was honorably discharged in the fall of 1952.
Upon his discharge, he retuned to the family ranch and started a long life as a rancher.
August 31st of 1954 he married the love is his life Francis (Sis) Orelup. They would spend the next 63 years building their life and family together on Muddy Creek. Together they had one son, Bart, but took in many more children and raised them as their own.
In 1974 Mom and Dad sold the cow heard and Dad started his career as professional fisherman until Macular Degeneration took his sight. The trophy wall in their living room was a conversation piece for all to see when visitors would come.
Mom passed away in 2017 and our lives changed but not as much as Dad’s did. Dad continued to be the center of the family, insisting he stay in his and mom’s house until the end of his days.
Dad continued to be ornery up until the very end and we wouldn’t want it any other way.
He is proceeded in passing by his parents, Lafe and Elizbeth, brothers Wayne and Sarge (Leonard), sisters June, Loretta, and Darlene, adopted son Randy, Niece Bobby Joe, and the love his live for 63 years, Sis.
He is survived by his son Bart (Tammy) Elliott, Grandson Randy (Kasey), their children DeLaney and Ervin, and his granddaughter Samantha (Sam) with her children Jace and Rebecca. Also, by his sister Manita.
Per Dad’s wishes, no services are planned. A private family service will be held at a later date.

This song by Vince Gill comes to mind:
I know your life on earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren’t afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain
So go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin’
Love for the Father and the Son
Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
Wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing
So go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin’
Love for the Father and the Son
Blessed be, those that you left behind Doc!
My thoughts are with you all as you work though your loss.
My heart felt condolences.
