Ervin Elfred Raymond, 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at the Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Ervin Elfred Raymond was born at Aberdeen, SD on April 12, 1925; to Charles J. and Hazel Belle (McGill) Raymond. He lived there as a child, also at Timber Lake and Glencross area, then moved to the Groton area, then to the Fredrick area. Ervin graduated from High School at Barnard, SD. He left home in 1945 and was employed as a cab driver, for Vets Cab Co. He then worked for Gamble-Robinson at Aberdeen. Ervin married Betty Lou Ackerson of Ellendale, ND, on August 22, 1947. Soon after Ervin and Betty moved to Ellendale in March of 1948, and were employed at Ellendale Cleaners, and then leased this business in 1950.
In August 1956 they moved to Tillamook, OR and became employed at Model Cleaners, until they returned to Ellendale and purchased the Ellendale Cleaners on January 1, 1960. Together they owned and operated this until August of 1973. During this time they owned and operated the Lyric theatre for several years.He was elected to the Ellendale city council in April of 1960 and served until 1970, when he was then elected Mayor in April that same year.Hethen became Ellendale's City Coordinator andlater the City Auditor/Administrator until 1993 when he retired. Erv and his wife, Betty, moved back to Aberdeen in 1999.In 2003, theycame to reside in Miles City to be near family.
Ervin is survived by one son, Jack Raymond of Miles City; three grandchildren: Chris Raymond, Minneapolis, MN; Carl Raymond, Seattle, WA; and Anna (Aaron) Mathys, Miles City.
Ervin is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; one sister, Dorothy; and one brother-in-law, Harvey Anderson.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 4:00pm at the Holy Rosary Chapel in Miles City, MT. Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.at the Ellendale Cemetery in Ellendale, ND with Masonic Lodge #13 AF/AM of Ellendale conducting the services. Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is entrusted with the arrangements.
