Ethel Hockett, age 87, mother of Galen Hockett of Gillette, Wyoming passed away Thursday, November 6, 2003 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Gillette, Wyoming.
Ethel Marie Hocket was born September 14, 1916 the daughter of Hazel (Stoner) and Oliver Bowlin in the state of Kansas, where she was raised and educated. Ethel attended two years of college at the Central Baptist Theological Seminary School in Kansas City, Kansas, where she met Hollis Hockett. Ethel married Hollis Hockett, in 1939. Ethel and Hollis would relocate quite often to pastor in other churches. In 1964, they moved to Afton, Wyoming and lived there until 1976. They returned to Kansas for Hollis health reasons. After Hollis died in Kansas, Ethel returned to Casper, Wyoming in 1982 to be near her son. She was a homemaker for most of her lifetime and would do ironing and cleaning houses to supplement her income. In 1997, she moved to Gillette, Wyoming and became a resident at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home where she has resided until her death.
She was a member of the Vineyard Christian Fellowship Church in Gillette. She was also active in American and Southern Baptist Convention in the early years with her husband. She enjoyed crafting, reading, cooking, and baking, especially candies near the holiday season. She especially enjoyed spending time with her son and going to church with Galen on Sundays.
Ethel is survived by her son, Galen Hockett of Gillette, Wyoming; two daughters, Arlene Campbell of Austin, Texas, Gaylene Barnes of Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Pauline Eidsen of St. Petersburg, Florida; seven grandchildren; Crystal Snyder, Angela Hockett, Nicole Hockett, Justin Hockett, Alicia Brady, Aaron Barnes and Amber Barnes and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, and one sister. Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home of Gillette, Wyoming is in charge of arrangements.
