Etta Louise Jaeger, age 94, died at Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
Etta was born on October 15, 1916 in Holdridge, Nebraska, the daughter of Dave Rickett and Susie Schliem. She grew up and attended schools in Sidney for 12 years. She lived in the country and worked on the farm, which was six miles out of Sidney. Etta married Walter Jaeger Sr. in Glendive on March 2, 1934. She worked at Noyes Grocery in Billings before moving to Miles City in 1947. She worked for JC Penny, was the secretary for Herb Able in Credit Bureau, and also worked for Federal Land Bank. She worked for the State of Montana Veterans Affairs for 15 years, and then retired and started volunteer work. Etta loved gardening, working outside, reading (especially Westerns), bowling, and spending time with family and friends. Etta attended Sacred Heart Church, and was a member of Beta Sigma Pi and St. Joseph and St. Catherine Circles, volunteered at Holy Rosary Healthcare in the gift shop, and also volunteered for the Convent Keepers, St. Vincent de Paul, and Meals on Wheels. Etta had a stroke in 2000, and she was no longer able to work in her garden or volunteer. Walter Jr. took very good care of her. While in her wheelchair, she passed down her cooking skills to Walter and taught him to cook. Not a day went by that Etta did not thank Walter for the loving and devoted care that he provided for her.
Etta is survived by her son, Walter Jr. of Miles City; her daughter, Jo Ann Gable (Reuban) of Kent, Washington; her brothers, M.O. Rickett of Missoula, MT, (Edwin) E.E. Rickett of Basin, Wyoming, William Rickett of Spokane, Washington, and David Rickett of Sullivan, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Charles Rickett, and one sister, Barbara.
