Interment: will follow at the Moorcroft Cemetery
Funeral services for Eugene W. Hudson, age 80, of Upton, Wyoming are set for 1:00 P.M., January 3, 2004 at the Moorcroft First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Donavon Voigt officiating. Visitation will be held 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service, Saturday, January 3, 2004. Interment will follow at the Moorcroft Cemetery in Moorcroft, Wyoming with full military honors provided.
Gene died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home of Gillette, Wyoming of natural causes.
Gene was born November 25, 1923 at Watseka, Illinois the son of Emma (Buhr) and Porter Hudson. He spent his younger years in Watseka, Illinois, then the family moved to Kankakee, Illinois. After finishing high school, he joined the Army Air Force in 1942 during World War II. He became a mechanic specialist checking and working on warplane bombsights and automatic pilots. (During this time he was stationed at several military airports.) He met Annie Driskell while t the Rapid City Airport in South Dakota. They were married on January 3, 1945 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Gene was discharged in February of 1946.
After five years, living in Kankakee, the family moved to live and work on the ranch of Leo and Minnie Driskell. His favorite job was farming and taking care of the machinery. He enjoyed football games, western music, traveling, and visiting the United States and family in Illinois. His hobbies included, making and flying model airplanes, cooking (especially meatballs and sauce for spaghetti) and growing a garden. Gene was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Moorcroft, Wyoming. He was baptized as a child in Cresent City, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Annie of 59 years, four sons: Dennis (Carole) of Forest River, North Dakota; Martin of Olympia, Washington; Wayne (Janine) of Douglas, Wyoming; Noel (Val) of Casper, Wyoming; one daughter, Sherry (Brady) Holm of Clinton, Utah; one sister Verna Keliher of Kankakee, Illinois; one granddaughter, nine grandsons, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepmother, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
