Eunice Evelyn Essex, 84, of Forsyth, MT died June 4, 2010 at Rosebud Health Center.
Eunice was born on December 9, 1925 in Glendive, MT to Elmer and Mattie (Shy) Stimpson. Eunices mother came from Sedalia, MO in a covered wagon in 1905. Her dad Elmer came from Butler County, NE and followed the cow herds West to Miles City where they met and settled on the Tongue River.She married Truman Essex on March 10, 1944 in Billings, MT.Truman and Eunice ranched in Montana their whole lives eventually purchasing a ranch Southeast of Ingomar, MT in 1959. Eunice was happiest here because she loved the wide open spaces of the Northside and it was her first permanent home. She delighted in watching new life come to be in the Spring, listening to the coyotes howl, and just enjoying what God made.Eunice was a tireless worker and like most ranch wives, could and did do anything and everything from working cattle to breaking horses to milking cows in addition to taking care of their 4 children with no electricity or running water in the early years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Truman Essex, her parents Elmer and Mattie Stimpson, a grandson, Timmy; brother Ike Stimpson, her sisters Mary Barovich, Edna Mae Miller, and Daughter-In-Law Connie and Son-In-Law R.L. Pauley.
She is survived by her children Terry Essex and wife Garnet of Abilene, TX; Larry Essex and wife Gayle of Percival, IA; Maretta Freshour and husband Tim of Forsyth, MT; Janet Pauley of Miles City, MT; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter. She is also survived by sisters, Gladys Kober, Maretta French, Mable Stubbe, and Cora Lee Carlson; brothers George Stimpson and Buzz Stimpson.Eunices request was for her ashes to be scattered with her husband Trumans on their favorite ridge on the Northside where she was most happy.
Celebration of her life will be held July 12, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. noon at Marcy's Park in Forsyth. We will be celebrating and memorializing Gladys Schiffers life at this same time.
