Eva Rea Peterson, 92, a longtime Culbertson, Montana resident, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at the Roosevelt Memorial Medical Center in Culbertson.
A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, December 20, 2003, at 11:00 AM (MST) at the United Methodist Church in Culbertson. Rev. Tim Hutslar will officiate.
Eva Rea Scott was born November 30, 1911 to Ernest and Dinnia (Witcher) Scott on her dad's homestead home near the banks of the Missouri River, southwest of Trenton, North Dakota. She was raised in the Trenton area and attended a country school through the 8th grade. Then she went to Trenton High School for two years, before attending Williston High School, graduating from Williston in 1928. Eva Rea receive her teaching certificate from Minot State Teachers College in 1930, and began teaching school in September of 1930.Eva Rea was united in marriage to Gordon Howard Peterson on December 15, 1934, in Wolf Point, Montana. They made their home in Culbertson, Montana.
She received her college degree from Billings Eastern College, and in 1947 she resumed teaching. She retired from a long and interesting teaching career in 1973, but she continued to substitute teach until she was 80 years old.Eva Rea was a member of the Montana Educational Association, retired Teachers Association and the Rebekah Lodge. She was also very active in her church, being a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, and in the Ladies aid.
She enjoyed reading, puzzles, walking, watching T.V. , playing cards (Whist) with her grandkids, and driving her red explorer up until October of this year. Eva Rea enjoyed putting together her personal life history in a book called, "From Horse and Buggy to Outer Space."
Eva Rea is survived by three sons, Wayne G. Peterson of Butte, MT, Allen H. Peterson and his wife, Esther, of Culbertson and Gene S. Peterson and his wife, Rose, of Missoula, MT; seven grandchildren, Paula Wheeler and her husband, Chadd, in Billings, Darin Peterson and his wife, Polly, of Jamestown, ND, Kelly Peterson and his wife, Peni, of Watford City, ND, Brian Peterson of Los Angeles, CA, Kevin Peterson of Seattle, WA, Pamela Morales and her husband, Albert, of Phoenix, AZ and Kimberlee Sheehan and her husband, Kevin, in Missoula, MT; nine great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Julia Scott of Sidney, MT; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband in 1999; parents; two brothers, Delmer Scott and Milo Scott; two sisters, Ernestine Martin and Roselyn Groseth.
Friends may sign the register book on Saturday at the church for the hour preceding the service.
