In Memory Of

Eva Small

Wake: Friday June 8, 2007 at 7:00 pm in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Social Room in Lame Deer

Funeral: Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 10:00 am in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Lame Deer.

Burial will be in the Small family cemetery near Kirby.

Hapee (Chubby Woman) Eva Ann (Beaverheart) Small was born at home in Kirby to Louise (Harris) and Charlie (Beaverheart) Hart on June 6, 1913 one of three daughters and went to meet Maheo on June 5, 2007.

She was raised in the Kirby area and attended school at the Kirby Day School. She married Victor T. Small at the Busby Mennonite Church in 1934 and they were later remarried at their home by Father Marion. Eva enjoyed her Catholic faith and served as a Eucharist minister for Christ the King Church in Busby.Through their almost 50 years of marriage, Vic and Eva ranched and ran cows from the Tongue River to the Rosebud. They raised cattle for the war and also shared a love of race horses. They enjoyed taking horses to the Crow Fair each year. They had horses at Miles City, Gillette, Missoula, and Casper and followed them throughout the racing circuit. Eva insisted on keeping their cows and staying in the ranching business after Vic passed away and on many days she could be seen driving around checking on them.

Eva loved to quilt and sew, making many of her outfits that she wore to the pow-wows she dearly loved to attend. She was generous and would always ask visitors to the pow-wow where they were from and then pass along a few dollars or items at the giveaway to make sure they made it home after telling them its good you came to dance with us Cheyennes. Eva was very proud to be Cheyenne, and was a descendent of Lame White Man the Cheyenne War Chief who was killed in battle at the Little Big Horn. Her family had a trading post in Trabing, Wyoming and were forced to leave by the white caps during the time of the Johnson County War.

She was blessed with many special relatives, nieces (Margie), nephews (Eugene)and friends (Dorothy) throughout her life. You are too numerous to mention, but thank you for your love, support and friendship. Evas parents, sisters Elizabeth and Jessie, half brother Frank Beaverheart, as well as Vic preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Victor (Donna) Small, Jr. and daughter Caroline (Larry) Martin. Her grandchildren Vicki (Jimmy) Robinson and Scott (Marsha) Small, April (Jed) Chalfant, Misty Martin (Mike), J.T. (Marla) Martin and C.T. Martin. Her great grandchildren Kimberly, Jeremiah, Chauncey, Stacey, Charelle (C.J.), T.C., Bailey and Miah. Two Great-great grandchildren: Gavin and Keegan. Sister Pat Bietsch from Tohatchi, NM, who was adopted into our family.

As well as a great number of the kids friends who all called her Grandma. She will be missed by all. Wed like to thank Paula Small-Plenty and the staff at Heritage Acres in Hardin for her care the final months as well as Father Emmett and the staff at the Heritage Center in Ashland. She enjoyed her apartment and everyone went out of their way to care for her.

Stevensons Funeral Home of Forsyth has been entrusted with the arrangements and the Celebration of Her Life.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation to Prayer Lodge at HC 42 Box 515, Busby, MT 59016.
