Funeral Service: Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 am at the VFW Hall in Jordan
Interment: will follow in the Pioneer Cemetery. A potluck luncheon will be served at the hall after the graveside service
Evelyn Billing, age 90, of Jordan, MT passed away peacefully at the Garfield County Health Center in Jordan on September 11, 2007.
Evelyn was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on January 3, 1917 to Byron and Mamie (Cummings) Burghart. As a child, she lived in Minnesota until she was 12 and the family moved to Huntley Project. She finished her school, graduating from Huntley Project High school. Evelyn attended Eastern Normal School in Billings where she earned her teaching certificate. Following her graduation, she taught at Crow Rock. Evelyn and Ross Abner Billing were married on December 16, 1938 in Miles City. They made their home in Jordan working for various ranches while Evelyn taught school until they moved back to the Billing family ranch near Jordan, MT where Evelyn continued to teach while raising her family. She enjoyed living on the ranch until 2003 when she moved into the Garfield County Nursing Home due to ill health.
Evelyn is survived by two sons; Randy (Pearl) Billing of Jordan, MT, Monte (Judy) Billing of Jordan, MT, daughter-in-law Terry of Rosebud, eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burghart, May Billing, Mary Billing and Este Billing. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ross in 1996, infant son Barry in 1951 and son Don Billing, a brother, Merlin Burghart, a sister, Hazel Kerr, eight brothers-in-law; Bob Kerr, Howard, Curtis, Bill and Bruce Billing, Homer Hansard, Les Grant and Pete Pidal, and four sisters-in-law; Ruth Pidal, Mary Hansard, Teresa Billing, and Edith Grant.
Evelyn will always be remembered for her love of music. She and her husband were known for their musical talents as the played for many local get togethers over the years. She loved to garden and take produce to the fair and bazaars. Cooking and feeding her family and friends gave her great joy. Evelyn was a charter member of the Maids of All Trades Home Demonstration Club for several years.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 14, 2007 from 1 to 6pm at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 am at the VFW Hall in Jordan. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Cemetery. A potluck luncheon will be served at the hall after the graveside service. Stories and condolences may be shared with the family atwww.stevensonandsons.com.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Garfield County Nursing Home or to the charity of one's choice.
