My Mom, Huberts wife, your friend, Edna "Evelyn" Hopkins of Broadus, MT. passed away on March 4th, 2006. She was surrounded by her family and the loving staff of the Powder River Manor.
Evelyn was born on March 19th, 1928 to Hiram and Edna (Murphy) Mahoney. She grew up at the family ranch on the Little Powder where she loved riding with her Dad and swimming with all her brothers and sisters. When growing up she enjoyed playing music with her Dad and her brothers Junior and Gabe. They played to entertain family and also for dances throughout the county. On September 14th, 1946 she married Hubert, the love of her life and continued loving him till her passing almost 60 years later. They raised 7 children. Hillier Hubert, Robert Chester, Kaye Ann, Darrell Hiram, Joan Evelyn, Lynn Alison, Lori Golda. After spending several years in the Powder River County area they moved to California. There she bloomed into a beautiful California flower. They later settled in the Glendive area where they owned and operated the Twilite Lounge and Supper Club and the Lindsay Bar and Cafe. Evelyn became known for her legendary steaks and fabulous seafood.
After retiring, Evelyn and Hubert moved back to the Broadus area so Evelyn could be closer to her sisters, Margie and Jean.
Evelyn is survived by her husband and all 7 children, 23 grand children, numerous great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Junior and Gabe Mahoney and 5 sisters, Kathleen and Helen Mahoney, Iris Sanburn, Margie Phillippi and Jean Sterling and 1 grandchild Claudine Hopkins.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com.Should friends desire memorials may be made to the Powder River Manor Nursing fund.
