Evelyn Taylor, age 85, a long time resident of Powder River County, died on Friday, April 9, 2004 at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo, Wyoming of natural causes.
Visitation will be held from 1 P.M. to 6 P.M. on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Broadus, Montana. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Broadus, Montana. Interment will follow in the Valley View Cemetery in Broadus , Montana
Evelyn was born on April 18, 1918, to Ernest and Reathel (Craft) Cadwell on the family homestead. She was raised and educated at Ridge, Montana. She attended high school in Broadus and one year in Belle Fourche, during this time she boarded in town to attend. Upon the completion of her schooling she met and married Lloyd Taylor on July 18, 1935 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Ridge, Montana near her familys home. They resided in the area until her husband's death in 1993. Evelyns priority was her children and family. She worked hard to make her home comfortable with limited means. Evelyn was a wonderful cook, especially remembered by her homemade bread, and hospitality to friends, neighbors, and anyone who may stop by including hunters. She even fattened the stray cats that eventually became her own. She loved to raise a large garden. In the fall she would can: pickles, green beans, fruit, and even meats. She made the best plum jellies. She was an accomplished seamstress and made all of her childrens clothes. Evelyn was a great embroider, and later she made sure to teach to her daughter and granddaughters. After her husband died she moved to Gillette, Wyoming to be near her daughter, because of her failing health. Evelyn was very active in her community church, where she taught Sunday School, it was here that her love for music shown most, playing piano and singing along at services and funerals. She would accompany at local school programs. She was a member of various homemakers clubs in the area.
Evelyn is survived by five sons: Francis Taylor and his wife , Thelma, of Broadus, Montana, David Taylor and his wife, Donna, of Bonney Lake, Washington, Ralph Taylor and wife Peggy of Libby, Montana, Ron Taylor and his wife, Velma, of Deerlodge, Montana, Larry Taylor and his wife, Kim, of Evans, Colorado; one daughter, Edna Mouat and her husband, Bob, of Buffalo, Wyoming; three brothers: Francis Cadwell of Ridge, Montana, Gilbert Cadwell of Colorado Springs and Phillip Cadwell of Mississippi; three sisters: Ruth Walloth of Newcastle, Wyoming, Grace McKnight of Spearfish, South Dakota and Carol Mattern of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter-in-law Norma Taylor of Miles City, Montana; sixteen grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren and 2 great- great- grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Thelma Metts and three grandchildren.
Memorials have been established in Evelyns name to benefit the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo, Wyoming or the Powder River Manor in Broadus, Montana.
