Ferd was born on August 13, 1918 on the family homestead near Rock Springs, Montana, the son of Jacob and Christina (Naasz) Ohlhauser. He was raised on the family homestead and attended schools at the Crow Rock, Sutherland, and Uall country schools where he graduated from the eighth grade. Ferd remained on the homestead where he farmed and ranched with his brother Herman all of their lives. They farmed with horses in the early year which is where Ferd gained his love of animals. Ferd and Herman operated the place together until Herman passed away in 1997. Ferd continued to run the farm himself until he moved into Miles City in 2004 and eventually sold the place.
Ferd enjoyed attending local and area rodeos and was even known to be bucked off of a few horses. He also enjoyed music and playing the accordion. Ferd loved visiting with family, friends and neighbors.
Ferd is survived by his sister, Lydia Waldow of Miles City, MT; a nephew, Stanley Waldow of Longview, TX, four nieces; Donna Flanigan of Miles City, MT, Sandra Danforth of Carson City, NV, Linda Edwards of Fernley, NV, and Nancy Seright of Post Falls, ID and ten great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Herman.
