Florence was born on October 24, 1923 in Golva, North Dakota, to Thecla (Kempenich) and Edward Fischer. She grew up in Golva and attended school there, graduating from Golva High School in 1941. After high school, Florence received her teaching certificate in 1943 and then returned to complete her Bachelors Degree in 1960, both from Dickinson State College. She started her teaching career in Hettinger, North Dakota before moving on to teach classes in Baker, M.T., Golva, N.D., and Miles City, M.T., where she taught for 36 years. Florence retired from teaching in 1988, but continued to make her home in Miles City until the summer of 2006, when health problems took her closer to family.
Throughout her life, Florence was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, serving in many ministries, as well as volunteering in the office. She was a member of the St. Frances Altar Society and truly enjoyed volunteering at the Sacred Heart Hospital Gift Shop or calling Bingo at the TLC Personal Care Home. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Homemakers Club for many years. Her interests included photography, growing flowers, watching the stock markets, and painting porcelain ceramics.
She especially liked playing cards with friends and was always ready to go for coffee or out on the town for dinner. Traveling was one of her favorite pastimes and she enjoyed it immensely. Florence loved and cared deeply for her family, often returning home to help celebrate holidays. She spent a great deal of time helping her parents as they aged and was always there for her sisters and families when the need arose. Florence enjoyed remembering nieces and nephews during holidays and on their special days.
Florence is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Marcella, Dorothy, and Loretta, and one brother, Carl.
