Florence Palmina Gress, age 96, of Broadus, MT formerly of Ashland, passed away at the Powder River Manor in Broadus on September 6, 2009.
Florence was born on May 18, 1913 in Minneapolis, MN the daughter of August and Ingborg (Palm) Maak. As a child she lived in the Billings and Lodge Grass area. In November of 1940 she married Pete Gress they made their home in the Ashland area. Florence worked at St. Labre until her retirement. They then moved to Moccasin, MT and Pete passed away in 1980. Florence remained there for about a year before moving back to Ashland where her sons were. Florence enjoyed reading and visiting with her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She drove herself to the post office every day until she was 90 years old. Florence enjoyed her daily senior citizens meals at the Hitching Post Cafe where she loved the home cooking.
After her failing health, Florence moved to the Powder River Manor in Broadus in April of 2004. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Pete Gress, her sister Elvy Woods and brother Carl Maak.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Julie) Gress of Ashland, MT, Clinton (Paula) Gress of Sundance, WY and Lee Gress of Ashland, MT. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 11:00 am at the St. Labre Mission. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the Mission. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Willow Crossing Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

I remember Pete and Florence came to my graduation in Columbia Falls in 1964.
Ronnie and I visited both Pete and Florence at Moccasin, MT when we were motorcycling around MT one summer.
We really enjoyed them both.
