Mrs. Florence Swanson, age 92, of Miles City passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Holy Rosary Health Center.
The former Florence Rupp was born September 3, 1915 at Sarona, Wisconsin, the daughter of Gustaf and Amalia (Miller) Rupp. At the age of one, she moved with her parents to Baldwin, North Dakota. She attended grade school in Baldwin and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1933. She attended Dickinson State Teachers College and then taught in rural schools in Morton and Burleigh counties. On March 21, 1940, she married Ralph Swanson at Bismarck, North Dakota. She taught second grade at the Wilton North Dakota Public School and first grade for 22 years in the Miles City Public Schools before retiring in 1980.
Florence especially liked children and enjoyed teaching the little folks. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, playing scrabble and outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. Her Sunday morning fellowship and Wednesday evening bible studies meant much to her.
Florence is survived by two daughters: Gail Heller and her husband Arnie of Minot, ND and Mavis Rogers of Miles City, MT; five grandchildren: Sherri Doiron and her husband Danny; Terri Villarreal and her husband Carlos; Tami Schneider and her husband Ed; Tayne Heller and his wife Crystal; and Troy Heller; eight great grandchildren: Jacquelyn Welge, Jacob Doiron, Brianna Heller, Justine Schneider, Logan Heller, Karla Villrreal, Alona Villrreal and Leah Villrreal. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Wayne Swanson; five sisters: Edith Dorman, Edna Fricke, Gladys Haakenson, Delores Johnson and Laura Meyers; and a brother, Delbert
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2007 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Custer County Cemetery. I had Mrs.Swanson way..back in 1969. She was fun and a wonderful teacher. Many years later as a adult she still remembered my name. This really touched me after all those years. God Bless you Mrs. Swanson You will be missed.
