Hoveo’ke’hahtse, “Fly’s About In The Shade” also known as Floyd William Fisher, made his journey to the kingdom of Heaven on September 22, 2020, to be with his loving wife, Louise, who preceded him in death in February 2014. He missed her dearly. Floyd was born June 27, 1935 to Henry and Lucille Harris Fisher, who preceded him in death in 1977 and 1992.
If you knew him “back in the day” you would know he was from Birney, Montana. He came from a big family on both sides. He had many cousins from Muddy Creek Area from his Aunts, Mary Ewing, Lizzie Elliott, Julia Walkslast, Agnes Mason, and Florence Harris and from his Uncles, George and Ray Harris and Uncles from his dad’s side, Harold Fisher, George Fisher, and Richard Fisher. He was a cowboy and a very good looking one at that. Floyd attended St. Labre until the 8th grade. It was then that he started working at the 3 circle Ranch and at the Daniels Ranch and other ranches in the Birney area. He worked there till he was old enough to join the Navy in 1955. Floyd was an extremely hard worker and had particularly good work ethics which he instilled in his daughters and others he worked with. His brother stated he was a good role model for the younger boys. Floyd loved to travel, go to powwows to watch his grandkids and great grandkids dance. He also loved to watch his grandkids and great grandkids in their sporting events. He loved watching the PBR on TV (and did not care how many times it was a rerun) and the Game Show network with Family Feud being his favorite.
One of the biggest life changing events was when he gave his life to the Lord on December 31, 1981 and then was baptized on January 3, 1982 at the White River Cheyenne Mennonite Church at Busby, MT. He served on the church council for many years up until his passing. He was very active with the Mennonite Indian Leaders Council, traveling throughout the United States and Canada even across the seas to France and Switzerland and was very active in the local Mennonite Church.
Floyd joined the Navy in 1955 during peacetime, which took him to San Diego, Okinawa, Japan, and Hawaii. He was honorably discharged in 1957. He was a proud Navy Veteran. Upon his return at the Christmas Pow wow in Birney, MT his mom had an honor dance for him. This is where he met the love of his life, Louise Rising Sun. They were married on June 10, 1958 in Billings, MT and made their home in Busby, MT. to this union two daughters were born, Elizabeth Marie and Danetta Faith. At this time, he started his work career at the Tongue River Boarding School in 1957. In 1961 he started working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring in 1990 as the Plant Manager. In 1991, he started his position as Buffalo Manager for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe. During the 10 years he grew fond of the buffalo and developed a special bond with them. He would just have to holler, and they would come running to him. The buffalo herd became special to the whole family. As the buffalo manager he represented the tribe at the Intertribal Bison Cooperative Meetings traveling to different states. He also worked for the Northern Cheyenne Housing Authority. After fully retiring he became the family babysitter, a job he immensely loved.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife Louise, are his parents, Henry and Lucille Fisher; brothers: Henry Jr, and Doran Fisher; sisters, Emmaline Spang, twins, Cynthia and Alvina Fisher; grandsons, Zane Raining Bird, Bryant Ty-Jay and Wesley Brave; nephews, Cleve Spang, Llavando Fisher Jr; and niece, Palmeda Fisher.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth M. Fisher (Allen Littlecoyote), Danetta Fisher, and Gladys Limberhand (Elmore Limberhand III); adopted son, Christopher Myron of Phoenix, AZ; last surviving of his siblings, his little brother Llavando Fisher, Sr. (Phyllis), many nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Phillip Allen (Brandi), Aryn Faith (Ryan), Floyd Neil (Melody), Stacibeth Marie (Richard), Faith Marie, Allarie Jean, Stefan Louis (Antonia), and Todd Louis (Shawna); great grandchildren, Taryn Rayn, Kamryn Deloris, Khyrie Clarence, Tylen James, Khyzlei Louise, Larenzo Louis-James, Avalynn Elizabeth-Rose, twins, Joraya Christelle and Aleia Emmarie, twins, Bridger Zane and Timberly Zhane, Logan Robert, Avery Joseph, and Hazel Louise. They were all his pride and joys. He is also survived by life-long friends: Willis and Nadine Busenitz and family, Jule Spang, Sr., and family, Scott and Suzette Shreffler of PA., William Rowland of Lame Deer, MT, Wayne and Elena Leman of Spokane, WA, and many more to numerous to mention.
Our dad, grandpa, uncle, brother lived an amazing life. If he made you smile or said a kind word to you, you were also a part of his life.

Sending our Prayers and Condolences. A couple Christmas’s ago Floyd picked my son Alan’s name in the gift exchange at the Mennonite church. When Alan found out about Floyd’s passing he went and grabbed his basketball(gift from Floyd) and held it. Finally Alan said, “Floyd gave me this basketball for Christmas.” 💙🙏

We mourn with you. Floyd (and Louise) were always such welcoming, loving people. We have fond memories of family camp, pow-wows, and church functions. We enjoyed each and every contact we had over the years. May his memory inspire all who knew Floyd to follow his pattern of faithful service, friendship, and a purpose-filled life following Jesus, his savior. May the Lord comfort you in days ahead as you continue to share memories .

I am very sad to learn of Floyd’s passing. I first met him at the Ranch Store in the 1960’s when he came to get groceries for the Birney day School, and sometimes when i was teaching at the Birney Headstart. I love being a member of the Gourd dancers and Floyd was one too. I send my deepest sympathy to all the family but especially Daneeta and Cowboy & Phyllis. May God go with you all.
