In Memory Of

Floyd Hoover, age 95, of Miles City.

July 3, 1928 – August 3, 2023

Floyd Eugene Hoover was born July 3, 1928 to Robert Forest Hoover and Mary Alice Tuttle Hoover in Cheraw, Colorado. He went home to be with the Lord on August 3, 2023 at the age of 95.

He grew up on a pig farm where he was raised in the Mennonite church. He attended Cheraw public schools for 12 years. During that time he shoveled coal off of box cars and worked for the Inge company. He left the Mennonite church to serve his country. He served in the Army for 18 months during WWII and the Korean War then returned home to Colorado. He started working for Smith Ranch in 1949 and worked for them for 46 years. He married Bonnie Marie Jenkins on November 9, 1952. They moved to MT in 1959 to continue working for Smith Cattle Company. After retiring from Smith Livestock he worked for Ray Jerrel and ran a mail route for Pat McKenzie. Up until his passing he continued to work outside assisting with haying, yard work and gardening.

He loved his family (kids, grandkids, great grandkids) all alike. When given a task he would put his all into it, like serving on the school board. He loved the outdoors and horses. He loved to play cards and if he could get “your goat” he would. He loved to watch football, especially the Green Bay Packers.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 70+ years. A sister Sarah Wilson, two brothers-in-law Bill (Marlyn) Jenkins & John (Judy) Jenkins. His children daughter Sheryl Whitney (Dwayne) of Miles City, son Bruce Hoover of Miles City, son Keith (Barb) Hoover of Ismay, daughter Jenifer Villeneauve of Glasgow, and daughter Julie (RJ) Hubbard of St. Marie. Grandchildren Josh, Seth (Casey), Tessa Whitney. Terry (Ann) Nass, Michelle Berry, Cactus (Mike) Steelman, Autumn (Layne) Murnion. Kayla (Joe) Kiel, Jeremy (Brittany) Hoover. Greg Villeneauve. And numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 9 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow at the Eastern Montana State Veterans Cemetery. Following the burial please join the family at the VFW hall for a luncheon. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.stevensonandsons.com.

As a tribute to Floyd, horseback riders are welcome to process from funeral home to the cemetery on Thursday, August 10,2023.

Bonnie and Family we have many great memories of Floyd. He was such a true Stockman. Lot of great times with the Hoover family when we lived on the Mizpah Ranch. Trail Creek and Riverview school get togethers and so many other events trying to keep Jaci and Julie in line. Ten years of driving for Ray Jerrel hauling Smith Ranch Cattle from Cohagen, Wibaux and Trail Creek to Tribune, Kansas. It was always a pleasure to load cattle at Floyds operation on Trail Creek. REST IN PEACE old friend.
