In Memory Of

Forest “Dave” Worman, age 86, of Broadus.

October 9, 1928 – March 12, 2015

Forest David “Dave” Worman , age 86, of Biddle, MT passed away March 12, 2015 at the Powder River Manor in Broadus surrounded by family.

Dave was born October 9, 1928 in Gillette, WY. He was the oldest of six children of Noel and Wilda (Study) Worman.  Brothers were Ned, Lee, Truman, Brooks, and sister Dorothy Mae.

He attended country schools near the Little Powder River and Black Tail.  His family was living near Biddle, MT when he was sent to high school in Gillette.  He did not like being without family so he quit school and came back and started trucking with Ray Harvey. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Warner, at a school dance and they kept in contact until they were married on September 21, 1948.  Dave was working for Wyodak Coal Mine in Gillette.  While living there their son Richard “Rick” Worman was born in 1949. Around 1950, Dave, Dorothy and son Rick moved to Biddle, MT.  At this time, they started a career of almost 60 years with the United States Postal Service hauling mail. They had a mail route that went from Biddle, MT to Gillette, WY and another small route that went from Biddle to Butte Creek.  During this time, Dave and Dorothy were ranching at Dorothy’s home place. In 1954, their daughter Cynthia “Cynde” (Worman) Trucano was born.  Also a son Michael Lee was stillborn in 1963.  Dave worked for the Fortner’s and helped his good friend Ray Harvey. When the oil boom hit in 1967, he started working for Zion Construction.  After that he worked for Powder River County blading roads until he retired at the age of 75.  This was one of his favorite things to do is run a blade and he was very good at it.  He also helped Dorothy with her cows on the ranch where they built their home.  The only way to get Dave to move from Biddle was to move the phone was one of our jokes.  Dave was a brand inspector for many years.  He also volunteered at the museum. Dave received his 50 year pin from the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Shriners.  Dave liked to visit with people and after his retirement he would get in his jeep and head to Broadus for some good visiting with his friends. Dave and Dorothy took a vacation to Hawaii and Dave loved the plane ride and going to Pearl Harbor.  They celebrated 66 years of marriage this past September.   Dave was a very hard worker and also a very strong man.  Rick and Cynde were always impressed by his “popeye” arms.  Papa David enjoyed his grandchildren and then later his great grandchildren.  He was a great husband, dad and Papa.  He will greatly missed by his family.

Dave is survived by his wife:  Dorothy of Biddle, MT, his son Rick (Cathy) of Clearmont, WY a daughter Cynde (Randy) Trucano of Boyes, MT; two brothers:  Lee (Evelyn) of Gillette, WY,   Brooks (Clara) of Gillette, WY.   5 grandchildren:  Mistee (Mark) Elliott of Sheridan, WY, Devin Worman and Sage Worman of Laramie, WY, Lyndsey (Brian) Bailey of Gillette, WY, Marlee (Jiggs) Bilbrey of Biddle, MT and Cynde Jo (Chad Gatlin) Trucano of Broadus, MT.  He had 14 great grandchildren:  Blake and Madyson Godwin, Drew and Brooke Worman, Rhagen Johnson, Jaxon, Shaylee, and Rickee Bilbrey, and baby Bilbrey to be born in July, Seldon Little, Hayle Trucano, Dalton and Karli Collins, Aria and Myla Gatlin. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael, two brothers Truman and Ned and sister Dorothy Mae.

    My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to all of David’s family. I had the privilege to be one of David’s caregivers during his short, recent stay in Sheridan. Even though I was sad to see him go back to Broadus, I was glad he got to go back home and be with his family during his final days. May God Bless all of you.

    I was very sorry to hear of David’s passing. I have several memories of David as he was a regular fixture around our home spending time with my dad, Ray Harvey. When I think of our ranch, David is always among those memories. He was a good family friend and my dad’s best friend. I know that he and my dad are together right now and I am sure that they are in the middle of some project and having a good time with lots of laughter involved. My sympathies to Dorothy and family.

  19. Floyd Huckins says

    March 19, 2015 at 5:39 am

    Dorothy, Rick, Cynde, and all of Dave’s family;
    Dave was a person who, when you saw him, you knew you were going to be laughing and happy after talking to him. His quick wit was one of my favorite memories, of which there are many- he & George blading our roads, brand inspecting, or the Lodge. Whenever I worked on a well for Dave & Dorothy stopping at the house for cookies was always a great end to the day. We’ll all miss him; they broke the mold when they made Dave Worman.
